Don't think so. West Ham are in 10th on 43 points with a 12point GD advantage. Can't see Villa beating Wigan 13-0. 11th is a possibility.

Reckon we'll keep Benteke or sell him on for a tidy sum and keep Bent? Cant see us selling Bent for much and not much cash around the place for new players at the minute is there?

Bent Dunn and Ireland all out, that'll save £200k per week on Wages, good defender and Gareth Barry in midfield and a couple of more half decent players and we will be mid table next season

Benteke will stay for one more season i think as he will get first team football and the World cup is around the corner

If Dortmund did come knocking, I cant see him staying even more so if they beat Bayern. Higuain probably to Arseanl so that would keep them away, and if Spurs get rid of Adebayor I can see them trying a bid with the number of crosses he get from Lennon & Bale he'd be 25+ a season.

As a goal scorer I don't want him to go, but as an asset I think we could use the funds to strengthen defence, as we're really susceptible to injuries though, Vlaar (and Dunn as crap as he is, has the experience to keep the young guys together) was a big loss and without him we were pretty ropey in simply organising the defence which I don't see Baker being able to do yet. I dont think we'd lose that much if we had Bent/Aggy back up front, but have to modify how we play a bit, Bent's still a proven Prem goal scorer after all.

And a decent keeper...not a fan of Guzman at all.

But what about Brad Guzan....? winktongue out

This time last year, I'd have agreed with you. I think he has played out of his skin this season though - he justified Lambert's faith in him, and then some.

There's a reason he was the players' player of the year!

As for Benteke, it's only a matter of when he goes and for how much, isn't it? One more season hopefully. However, if he's going, theres an argument that it would be better sooner rather than later though so that Bent knows where he stands and may stay if he has the prospect of playing next season. Selling Bent then having Benteke go would be a nightmare scenario.....

Not sure what planet you are on with Guzan, top 3 goal keeper in the premier league, if not higher.

Dunn is toast as is Bent, i think Baker will play for England, i would go as far as to say that he is better than Vlaar, Vlaar is typically a dutch defender good at going forward but not so hot at defending.

Just never been convinced by him as a decent defensive organiser like Friedel, shot stopper ok I'll grant with over 200, but he also has a part to play in stopping it get that far in the first place. Bozzie was a decent shot stopper, wouldn't say he was that a great keeper either.

Unfortunately i have to disagree there too, Bozzie on his day was unbeatable, on another day he was a bloody liability, but there was no doubting the guys talent.

If you have been to watch Villa this season you will see why he was the player player of the season, in fact you could only blame him for one goal at Chelsea, probably agree with the defensive bit, but as we never really had one its hard to judge i guess

Thats the point about great keepers though, they dont just have "days" when theyre great, they have them season after season. Altho bozzie did lay out Klinnsman which was epic! hehe

Most keepers in the league can stop a shot, hell thats what theyre there to do, but that other aspect to his just isnt there, hes 28 so it might come on in the next few years....just dont think it will and yes Ive seen them play this year.

Good luck to him but i wish he would play elsewhere, seeing him in the EPL playing for another team would be like seeing your ex wife with her new boyfriend frown

It matters not a single jot until...

A. A club makes an offer that satisfies the Demands on Aston Villa.
B. Upon a satisfactory offer being made Benteke must want to go there.

I think he will be with us for another season as I can't see a club offering what villa want on the strength of just one season.

Until then he is on extended leave that had been arranged quite a while ago.

He may be using his new found popularity to gain a pay rise as his pay at 20k per week is very low for a player of his calibre.

ETA some internet rumours are saying benteke is just following his agents advice and that they are trying to get hin £75k a week with a £35 million release clause.

Might be wrong but i believe he is currently on £30K and has been offered double money, but it is of no consequence as he wants to, and quite rightly too, to go to a bigger club.
