Z4M Roadster - initial thoughts

Enjoy!
You'll wear the front tyre edges less with a 4 wheel alignment and an extra 5 deg of camber on the front.
An unrated sat Nav disc to give perspective will make it a bit better. You get used to it
Keep the alloy dadh, I was never a fan of the carbon weave
An extra first aid box for under the drivers sea will give some more storage. It just clips into place

You need a TVR for tunnels, the Z4MR is quiet even with the roof down in comparison as you would expect really, at high revs the Z4MR does sound excellent but like all M cars they are quiet at lows revs so you get a nice happy medium.
I have drove a E93 M3 & own the E92 M3 & there is a massive difference in sound with the Cabriolet with the roof down it sounds miles better, I would imagine the same can be said between the Z4MR & Z4MC.
Z4MC is too quiet - although it does warm up and get louder, but not as loud even as my e34 M5 did.I have drove a E93 M3 & own the E92 M3 & there is a massive difference in sound with the Cabriolet with the roof down it sounds miles better, I would imagine the same can be said between the Z4MR & Z4MC.
That's why I got some Rogue Diablo back-boxes which seem to make every tunnel my own personal drag strip (even if it's only 20m long) ;-)

Hey Jamie,
Thanks for taking me out tonight, lovely car you have there, great condition in and out. That S54 really is something very special, such an aggressive metalic sound when you put your foot down, you just know there is something powerful lurking in front of you. Much faster than I remember them to be, 3rd gear just goes on and on
Best bit is the burbles and popping when you let off the throttle with the roof down, you just don't get the same noise or drama in the coupe. As for the silver dash trim, it actually looks much nicer in real life, I wouldn't bother changing it. The ride feels much better than the other coupes I've been in, defintitely not as harsh and it didn't seem to trameline that much either. Traction control is annoyingly intrustive though.
Was good to compare the Zed and S2000 back to back. Both really differet cars despite both being RWD, front engined roadsters. I do miss a big engined car, but the S2000 can be laugh when driven hard and handles really well, feels lighter and more nimble than the Zed I'd say. That said, I know which one I'd rather drive to France
Enjoy your next trackday, I'll need to join you next year.
Definitely catch you soon for a blast.

Interesting thread. I'm hankering for a Z4MR at the moment - had a 2003 Z4 3.0 Roadster which I sold for a 645ci Coupe which I'm just not bonding with
Interlagos blue with cream interior would be a winning combo.
Agree with your colour combo loads I went black/red for my old Z4MR...but now with hindsight I wished I had gone for the Z4 M Coupe but with your winning combo.
Interlagos blue with cream interior would be a winning combo. As an ex z4mr owner I can't disagree with you, the coupe just looks a lot better. Love having the top down but wanted a bubble roof everytime I saw one. Totally agree that stock exhaust is too quiet. Ps they are bloody good fun to take to south France. Drag race at every toll booth never gets old...plus the fact that you appear like a rockstar vs the tat the French are forced to drive by their tax system!

Yes I do agree, pretty much as soon as I got it I realised I should have gone with the coupe but I had never owned a soft top so I thought I would give it a try, but realised I just prefer Coupes so I only owned it for 5 months & when I had it all I wanted to was make it more vocal & swap the exhaust but it did sound good at high rpm with the roof off! Whilst I enjoyed owning my Z4MR the best way I can sum it up is that it's all about the engine, it's such a shame the rest of the car couldn't keep up.
This is the main reason that I sold mine after just over 12 months.
Shame, it could / should have been an epic car!
I agree, it has the recipe to be immense but it just doesn't quite live up to its on paper credentials which is a shame. This is the main reason that I sold mine after just over 12 months.

I just bought my 2nd one a couple of months ago and I know that I am going to sound a twit but I honestly prefer them to the 911 & V8 Vantage Roadster that I had in between them.
They do get very mixed reviews and you will either absolutely love them or hate them - its down to personal preference. There are parts of the car that could be better but for me they do not detract from driving it and add character to the car as it is anything but clinical.
You do need to spend time with them to learn the car otherwise you just won't 'get' it from a 20 minute test drive.
I actually thought Richard Hammonds review on Top Gear was very true and you do need to drive it a different way to some cars to get the best out of it.
Are you thinking of getting one?

Would you have another? These cars seem to give massively mixed reviews.
I'm not sure if i'm honest, I always hated the gearbox in town especially 1st to 2nd. I also didnt like the power delivery low down the revs, there was nothing then everything which made it very twitchy although I did drive it with the traction off all the time in the dry. It was also cramped inside. What I did like was the unrelenting oomph when you opened her right up, 3rd seemed to go on forever! The steering was great and the big chunky steering wheel.
It was a scratch i needed to itch and I dont think I would go back, family now so I dont really have the option even if I wanted to

Thanks for replies. Still leaning towards E46 M3 for now, thread to come!
