Well, my Homehub 4 arrived today in preparation and the install is still booked for Tuesday.

I've done a few speedtests pre install and will post up the post when it's all done and settled.

Lucky man - you must have one of the first. I had a HH3 delivered on Wednesday for my install yesterday, although it went straight back in the box as soon as the Openreach engineer left as I'm sticking with my Billion.

Interested to hear how you get on with the HH4, although to be fair I think the vast majority of people were already very happy with HH3.

Yep, didn't even know there was a HH4. I already have the 3 and was expecting just another one to come and gather dust in my cupboard.

Not a bad looking unit, at least they've gone away from shiny dust attracting plastic for the front plate.

Single gigE port is my main complaint with the HH3, have they remedied that?

Only one is labelled up so I'd say no. Not a clue what that signifies though so no problem for me.

Speed of the ethernet ports - gigE is 1000 mbps, the others are 100 mbps. Seems a bit weird to only have a single 1000 port since it can't really communicate with anything else at that speed.

Home hub 4 is a huge improvement - i have been using one for a few months now and its the first hub i have not binned due to strict nat issues or wireless issues.

Had my Infinity installed today. Was promised 73.2, getting about 50 on average, so thats about 62% of what I was expecting. Upload is about 11mb, so just over 50% of projected...

I was hoping for a hoe hub 4, instead of which the BT bloke said I have to continue use my home hub 3! So I rang up India and was told that home hub 4's are only available to new customers, and existing customers after June 1st when they will have to pay £35.

Not happy at that at all. I think BT are one flaky shower.

edited to add: Whats the significance in real terms of the gigE4 socket. I realise it transmits data faster from the hub to the PC, but does my existing onboard ethernet handle that extra perfornce? Doesn't seem any difference.

It's only really relevant if you have more than one device on the network at that speed, e.g. two computers and you're transferring between them. 100 mbps is still faster than your broadband so you won't see faster downloads.

Ok, thanks for that, I sort of guessed that would be the case.

I was just looking at doing an online order for Infinity and they still seem to be listing the HH3 as the device you get. Are people definitely getting a HH4 as I wouldn't want to get it installed and then have to pay an upgrade in a few weeks.

I'd ring them up and ask specifically. If you are a 'new' customer I think you may get one. Existing, loyal customers don't. Retards.

I got a HH4 as an existing customer, wasn't expecting it but nice all the same

Ok, chap has been and gone. He turned up 10 minutes early and was done in 25 including driving off to the cabinet to connect me up in there.

Initial result is promising

It took the engineer just 10 HOURS (yes hours) to get us up and running including requesting a cherry picker! It was a new line install too though!

Can they move the master socket when they do this and is that extra cost? my master socket is by the front door and nowhere near power.

He looked at the way my house was set up (data/media-wise) and moved mine, at his sugestion, to better suit it. No charge.

I got plus net, very cheap although can be a bit slower sometimes.

I use an Asus router with it.

It used to be an issue if you had 5-6meg and your speed decreased, however I have around 60meg sometimes it downloads at 20-30, which isn't a problem.

I've got question about Infinity if anyone can help.

I'm close to ordering it but I am not sure about the dual band Wi-Fi dongle that is mentioned.

My laptop is a four year old Dell studio 1537, is this what is classed as an older laptop and would I need the dongle? I've no idea if my laptop supports dual band or not, can't seem to find out, is it likely to make any difference?

Any info appreciated.

Need is perhaps the wrong word.

If the Dell has wi-fi then it will work anyway.

Adding the dual band usb dongle will give you the possibility of a faster wi-fi connection.

You don't have to use the BT one either .....
