I really like the GP circuit at Brands. Wish they had updated that ~ much prefer it to Silverstone. The weather was invariably nicer at Brands too. Even on Boxing day and most other holiday time meetings.
Absolutely, well remember Brands Boxing day 1966, what a scorcher..

rascal. Imps and Minis putting on a very good show. Great stuff and remember it well. I was well 'ard in those days, never felt the cold.... I do now.garyhun said:

More than other races in the season, this one will revolve around qualifying and because of that, any forecast I make prior to that is pure guesswork. This is one race when I do not have a clue.
.... and the winner will be ....

How far into any programme will any presenter get before they say "GLITZ AND GLAMOUR"?
Yes, regurgitating the same old same old ...
The only way Mercedes can hope to keep hold of their undoubted fast quali pace will be if the team ensure that whoever reaches the first corner SECOND will be the rear gunner for the entire race, trying to back the pack up behind them to allow a free pit stop for the lead car.
The Mercs seem to have a handle on getting their tyres to work from a pretty much cold start, other than that, Mclaren will be midfield at best, assuming Grosjean doesn't pile into Alonso or Kimi they both have to be in with a shout too.
I'm afraid I don't like Red Bull at all so I'm hoping for poor quali and an unceremonious coming together down through the tunnel wiping each other out

Maybe the Mercs will lock out the front row and then tire deg will mean the whole race becomes a procession as everyone gets stacked up behind them unable to pass.
Race will be won on the ability to get the underpass in the pit lane?
Yup. As few pits stops as possible, and whoever does the undercut the best. Race will be won on the ability to get the underpass in the pit lane?

The boys in red , high on espresso, are pretty consistent in the pits ( as are the boys in blue, slugging the taurine ) so it should be very close.
Someone, somewhere is going to either drive over a mechanic or drive down the pit lane on three wheels I suspect, such will be the pressure to turn the car in 3 seconds when it pits...
Should be fun.
I have a feeling there will be a lot of safety car action.

Thanks for posting that link, superb. A race I've heard so much about but never seen.Prost, Nige, Senna, Bellof, Murray, dear, dear James, rain... it had it all.

Hunt is incredibly good, considering that was Senna's first year in F1, his comments about the young Brazilian's skill and potential are truly prophetic.

The only race of the year I don`t usually watch Live. A record then fast-forward afterwards is in order for this procession.
However, the tyres might actually make this one a little more interesting !. Or is that just wishful thinking
It`s incredible to watch them going through some of the corners and the camera positions can really capture the speed, but from watching cars racing each other, I just don`t like it.
I love Monaco (not he city, it's dull and concrete, the least inspiring city in the region - many prettier to be had)However, the tyres might actually make this one a little more interesting !. Or is that just wishful thinking

I love it for the sheer ridiculous nature of the cars threading the streets. I love it for the frustration (Bernoldi vs Coulthard), (Senna vs Mansell) and some good races.
I wish it was a spectacle race - no points awarded, or maybe half points, or maybe points for fastest lap, pole and most positioned gained, etc... But I love it all the same.

The Murray, Hunt pairing are unsurpassed.
I totally agree. I've never realised before just how good a commentator Hunt really was. I've spotted a couple of good Murrayisms, at 39.03 "And there you see the stationary Ligier, rolling back..." and at 1.04.04 "I imagine in the cockpit it must be absolutely unimaginable"
, which incidentally comes in the middle of a terrific segment of Bellof pushing and passing... even against Arnoux who was bloody hard to pass when being lapped. Wonderful turbo flame from Senna's Toleman too. And there's a bit where you see Lauda walking back and who then stops and pokes his head right into the cockpit of a parked Renault... what a race.

it's almost worth having a sweepstake on the number of front wings destroyed. FWIW I'm saying 8.

BBC- 12 seconds, Sky- 47seconds.Given the "importance" placed on Monaco I'd love to see Kimi taking the win and being his usual totally bored and negative self on the podium :-)
I have a feeling this year could end up being a Kimi vs Alsono fight if the tyre situation remains unchanged.
My money's on Vettel to win, but you can't write off Webber around Monaco.
I think a Merc will be on pole, probably Hamilton, but will drop down the order during the stops.
So I'm going for;
1. Vettel,
2. Webber,
3. Alonso,
4. Raikkonen,
5. Hamilton,
6. Massa,
7. Rosberg,
8. Button,
9. Grosjean,
10. Perez.
