Seem to be quite well regarded on golfgtiforum.co.uk - also very accomodating for modifications, and offer pay per event trackday cover!
That's with 5k pa and a £250 excess, no claims transferrable.

A careless moment on ebay has just seen me buy a P reg 3 door Colour Concept in the same colour. Seemed like a reasonable car in the pics, guess I will find out soon enough! Short Mot, but the mileage isn't as high as the 16v at 113k, and a couple of months tax, as well as the lovely leather interior.
I figured that for the asking price (£500) It's not a massive risk.

Had a yellow one (with nice black wheels before they were all doing it) always loved it as did everyone else even though it sounds pretty garish. Good spec on that model too. Always loved how comfortale the seats were. Good luck with it.I figured that for the asking price (£500) It's not a massive risk.
Always liked these, a 3 door in black is a good looking car. However I could never bring myself to buy the Golf, I'd have always had the Ibiza GTI of the same year in that Kiwi Green colour :P Same 150 bhp engine but a bit more exclusivity and lighter too I'm told, essentially a Polo rather than the Golf body.
The only thing that annoyed me when I was searching for one was the amount of sellers that don't seem to know whether their car was an 8v or a 16v! Something like that is quite important if you want something that'll pull a skin off rice pudding, so at least find out or post a picture of the engine!

It's a pity the Colour Concepts were not 16v - I guess perhaps they were the easier sale though.
I'll start a thread on it when I pick it up next week. That will be four Readers Rides threads on the go - and I haven't done one on the Impreza, as it's not that interesting.
I agree, VR6 colour concepts would be spot on to along with some of the European syncro offerings!I'll start a thread on it when I pick it up next week. That will be four Readers Rides threads on the go - and I haven't done one on the Impreza, as it's not that interesting.

At least for the money you paid for the CC you could make half or more back on the interior alone.
The 16v is proving so far to be a reliable and pleasant daily drive, and can be surprisingly economical when needed as well.
The highlight for me is the engine - fairly torquey for a valver, but really picks up it's skirts noticeably in the higher rev ranges.
Jobs to do will be a suspension refresh, new rear bearings/discs and new front calipers. With those jobs done it should drive like a peach.

37.1mpg (measured brim-to-brim) on the last tank!
Thread update -
Sold the 16v a couple of months ago, but still have the Colour Concept. It was joined over the weekend by an N reg VR6 5 door manual, which is nice! Yet another Ebay job, just needing a radiator, which I did today!
Also realised I didn't put up a pic of the CC, so I'll add one now. Pics of the VR6 will have to wait a day or so - it's dirty, and rained after I'd finished the rad!

Small update due here.
A house move a few months ago forced the sale of several of my cars, but I have a bit more spave now and so I've managed to fill the Golf void with another 16v. It's an N reg 3 door, with just two owners from new. I'm picking it up on Thursday evening, so an update is due!
