Evening all, long time lurker first time poster!

I constantly see other drivers texting, calling and whatever else people must desperately do on their smart phones whilst driving.

The question is though, if stationary or in slow moving traffic would you say anything? A quick toot of the horn and a finger wag?

I must say i never have, but constantly feel the need to. Especially as the majority of the time these people continue to use their phones as the speed picks up.

Or is it a job that should be left to the BIB?

As much as it annoys me when I see people driving on the phone, I don't think I'd ever beep / wave at them (Unless they haven't noticed a green light etc due to texting!)

Do you beep / shout at everyone who drives in excess of the speed limit?

Depends how obvious and what they're doing at the time. I beeped a girl texting at a junction with traffic behind her. There's a time and a place. It worries me more when you see lorry drivers doing it!

Fair point.

I think it is just that i don't like the idea of sharing the road with someone who seems more interested at looking at their phone, than concentrating at the task in hand.

I always want to but never have done.

Tell a lie, I sort of did once, although it was more *ahem* voicing my opinion. Unfortunately I was on my bike at the time so it would have been pointless speaking, filtering past a lad using his phone, window down, so I did what came naturally and gave him 11,000 revs as I went past. In my defence the bike was on the standard exhausts. It was a bit childish but hell, so am I.

Have to admit i've done the same on the bike, stubby race can though, much more fun! wink

Ok then, to rephrase the question, at what point would you intervene? yummy mummy on the phone, doing her makeup, shouting at the kids in the back? White van man reading the paper, eating his mc'donalds breakfast?

OP, no I wouldn't, I'm not a Police Officer, and it is non of my business.

I used to hold my phone to my ear, if I wanted to, until it became illegal, I did this for years and years, until it suddenly became dangerous, as did a great many others I suspect.

Worry about your own driving, anyone elses isn't your concern.

Mutter under my breath if they're being inattentive.

Then again, we're treated like adults (?) here in Sweden, where handset-to-ear is not illegal. Hate doing it though, which is why I bought a car with Bluetooth. Can only sync one phone though... :-(

Barely acceptable in an automatic, plain effort in a manual. Would support a ban if the Swedes brought it in.

In my defence. I'm only a baby. As such, i've been taught that if you even think about mobile phones whilst driving, your car will suddenly swerve into the nearest solid object and explode! redface

Oh, and also you have to think of the children! wink

I do it all the time. Stare at them and toot the horn. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I feel better about doing in on the motorbike as I can get away from them more easily!!

Well if you really are a youngster, I'd advise you just do nothing, as one day, you'll probably get thumped, driving is a strange subject, and people behave in a strange way concerning it.

If you ever witness anything bad happening as a result of any illegal actions, just tell the Police, they'll deal with it.

Or, if you feel you want to try and make a difference, join them.

Not your job to police the roads. Whether right or wrong, I'd be pretty contemptuous of someone trying to tell me what I can or can't do.

I wish people were more inclined to mind their own business and let the police deal with minor nonsense like that.

I have no doubt that many people are capable of talking on a moblie phone and driving at the same time safely. If anything is a distraction it is the conversation itself, therefore meaning that hands free kits etc. are not really much different to holding the phone to your ear. In my opinion.

My main concern in those that appear to be more interested in tweeting, facebooking etc. typically paying very little attention to the road.
