I still think it was deliberate to turn attention away from all the Wrath of Khan remake rumours.

Oh I knew that, I wasn't suggesting they resurrect him but they could have got an Asian actor or if they really wanted to keep the awesome Cumberpatch, could have easily explained it away with him having undergone some futuristic procedure to change his apperance. As it is it just seems a little incongrous and another plot point which doesn't seem very well thought out.

Thing is it's not a remake of WoK so it doesn't have to be the same, I'd rather have an awesome dramatic character like Cucumber playing him than find someone just because of how they look. Straying into slightly nerdy territory now! Khan doesn't HAVE to be Asian/Middle Eastern, it's not a complete dissolve of his character, there's plenty of scope for Caucasian appearances and as for clipped British accent, don't forget the "secret lab" where he worked was in London and he is a man of extraordinary talents, probably just trying to blend in.

Also because to a lot of people (hopefully the newbies the JJ is trying to make 'buy-in' to the ST 'brand') they have no idea and, likely, less interest in RM or anything else related to ST

Also because Benicio Del Torro turned the role down.

Del Toro is good, but after seeing Bendydick, not sure he could have been bettered. Plus it's just a name, you get fair skinned blue eyed Persians etc.

Been to watch it tonight and I'm no Trekkie by a long shot but oh my, that is one brilliant film probably one of the best Star Trek films I've seen.

No I head him talk about the discovery of Kahn's ship (presumably the Botany Bay, but not named) as well.

It all makes sense. In the new time line events are different and Kahn was simply found earlier by different people.
Still doesn't explain why Khan is now a white Englishman. wink
Same doctor as Michael Jackson no doubt biggrin

Alexander Siddig to play Kahn would have been amusing.

Anyway enjoyed it, laughed at the references, laughed at the self poking fun cheese. Did anyone else get an image of the TNG alternate timeline plot ofthe purely military Enterprise that was black and evil and had a slimmed down crew when talking about the Dreadnaught?

I loved Siddig's portrayal of Hannibal Barca in Hannibal - Enemy of Rome - at first I thought 'Dr Bashir' was a wrong choice, but not at all, it transpired (for me, at least).

I had a very ST-nerd thought while watching it yesterday-Spock and Kirk were talking about an "away team"- wasn't that only used in TNG rather than the original series?

I have always wondered if that was his real chest or a part of the costume in the original film.

I'm sure it was his actual chest, he was really into his fitness and training.
