Thoughts from FP1 and FP2... We were seated at the grandstand at Casino.

Both Saubers were always out on track first. The RBRs are unbeatable around that twisty part of the circuit, although that's obviously not the case elsewhere. Mercedes are obviously able to do stunningly quick laptimes. With Alonso tracking just behind them... It Raikkonen as though Alonso was lining up his race strategy for both sessions.. Raikkonen also, but not quite as close.

On Super Softs, whilst on long runs the Mercs were slow.. on Softs they were quite quick. The Ferrari looked quick on both and Raikkonen was super quick on Softs. These were whilst doing long runs.
I think the difference between Mercs and Lotus was a second or even two seconds a lap..!

Alonso seems to be working out how to get his best grid slot possible, whilst having a lot of focus on race pace.. He must be thinking about making up one grid slot place in the race and looking to nick another if the opportunity arises. Q3 is going to be highly entertaining!

Merc 1-2. Both stop really early then wait for everyone else to stop and filter back to the front by about lap 10. THEN drive around 2-abreast really slowly until he race times out...

I think people are moaning about the cars driving round at 95% for the whole weekend except a couple of qualy laps when they're inches from the barriers, the rest of the time they've got a fair bit of room for error.
Look at the width of the racetrack, I am pretty sure most laps they will be inches from the barriers.....

And at 95% they are still going at an awesome rate......

Zac 510, Didn`t mean to denegrate your remebering Montoya, or the scenario against Schumacher and the dominant Ferraris. My point being solely that they were racing in those days not doing as they are now a group C endurance run.

As regards Montoya, can you remember anyone who worked with him sorry to see him leave F1? I know that the guys at Williams loved his speed but little else. I thought it a shame that he had such natural ability, but not the discipline to apply it. A world champion that never happened. Kimi could be made of simular stuff, but when he is at the races, so is his head. To waste the opertunities that Montoya had was for me, simply crazy.

There will be no tyre issues this race, just the usual queuing trouble. But the entertaining game of cat and mouse continues.

Over half the field involved in a pile-up at turn one.

Well they seemed to be having tyre issues in free practice, lots of radio chatter about overheating the surface of the rear tyres and they were backing off every other lap before doing a fast one...?
Think that is green track trouble, once some rubber is down the tyres will behave better. They were in pretty good condition overall, not frayed and torn asunder like we saw in Spain.

Great result for Sam Bird !!
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs starts on pole for tomorrows sprint race and Sean Edwards starts on pole for the Porsche Supercup. Just need Lewis to get a win on Sunday to get a Brit fullhouse for the weekend smile

Always great to hear the national anthem ring out around the streets of Monaco smile

Bit of a procession though, but that's what we expect. Bird did well, particularly as he was being held up at a vital time. A few quick laps saw him get his advantage back and stayed in front.
