Would you tell another driver to stop using their phone?
Discussion
I don't see the point really.. someone did it to me when I was driving the van, as such I acted like any white van man would and gave them the V with my other hand. Nosey old b
d. Would have swerved into his lane and rammed him off the road but it would only have proved his point that it was dangerous to be on the phone. So all I did was carry on until I'd finished my conversation proving to the old codger that I wasn't instantly going to crash and burn into flames, killing children, fluffy bunnies etc.

I agree somewhat to the previous post, but look around you at the next set of lights, and I guarantee that half of the people around you will be staring at their laps, instead of watching the lights.
So beep at the idiots and gesture at them to put their bloody phones away, so we can all get on with the driving thing.

Genuinely puzzled. Would you not just note they were on the phone, assume they are distracted and give them a safety buffer until they're out the way? Why distract yourself getting wound up by them? The police will catch them in the end. Not your job.
Try saying that when they have hit you up the arse, without you knowing what they were doing............Genuinely puzzled. No point to it whatsoever.
People use phones in cars. Right or wrong. Get on with your life.
People used to use them all the time, then it was made illegal. This gives the self righteous plenty of scope to pour derision on others as it's by far the most dangerous thing anybody has ever done in a car.
Meanwhile......they will claim 85 is fine on a motorway because technology in tyres and braking has moved on.......because they can singlehandedly pick which laws they choose to adhere to.
It's not your job-or your concern- to let people know your view of them. Simply drive on, avoid them and reflect happily on the fact that you don't do utter, so in your mind you are superior.

Nope, it's their driving I'm bothered about. Loads of people can happily hold a phone to their ear and their driving standard doesnt change enough to be a problem. Those who cant do driving and phone at the same time sometimes need a reminder via horn and/or lights that one has to be higher up the priority list than the other.
The older generation know its safe to drink and drive.
The middle generation know its safe to hold a phone and drive.
The younger generation know its safe to text and drive.
The papers prove they are all wrong.
Each person is safe when they do any of the above until they aren't anymore, then it's too late.

Yes, and I regularly do.
The rules are quite simple, don’t do it. Doesn't matter whether you think you are OK doing it, or whether you're about to mow down children, bunnies and spring lambs before catching fire in the middle of a group of nuns you aren’t supposed to be doing it so why are you? No phone call is honestly that important it can’t wait for you to find somewhere to stop, equally the technology is prevalent to allow you to not need to pick the phone up at all. As a result if I see people doing it and I catch their attention they will get a dissatisfied shake of the head from me and some sign language about putting the phone down. The funny thing is it is quite easy to spot people on phones, as their driving is often erratic, or inconsiderate.
If you're the one flipping me the V, shouting abuse or generally going batsh!t mental then it just proves you're a cock.

Laugh. You make me want to be on the phone. The rules are quite simple, don’t do it. The rules are quite simple, yes, but I'm pretty certain you haven't been appointed 'rules czar' and thus have no right to try and make me (or him, or her, or them) keep to them.
I wouldn't flick you the V but I would ignore you utterly.
Why not just let the police catch them??

So you were in the wrong and you flicked the fingers at him? Do you have sore knuckles from dragging them on the ground the whole time?Al Murphy said:

It's not your job to point it out though, is it, if someone flips you the v, they are a cock, yet your attitude of superiority is to be applauded? Which other law breakers do you pour scorn on? Those above 70mph on a motorway? Those going over a solid white line? is it always just a shake of the head, or do you occasionally tut your disapproval too?

I have done once, in our village.
There is a very narrow bit over 2 hump back bridges with a near blind corner and this idiot comes round it head on towards me on his phone.
I gestured to him to get off his phone but he wouldn't, so I just sat there.
He then winds down his window and shouts to me that he's lost and getting directions!
How silly of me, of course it's ok to use it while driving if you're lost
He still wouldn't have it, so I told him I was not moving until he got off his phone, he was livid, and tried to make out it was me in the wrong! I wish I had of reported the ignorant b

Were you wearing a high-vis tabard?
Rediculous? Yes it was, given the location it happened!
If it was on the open road then no, I wouldn't tell them, but as it was in a section of road that is dangerous enough as it is, then yes I was going to tell him.
What would the reaction be if I had of posted that I was driving round a tight narrow corner minding my own business and some cock comes the other way and hits me head on while on the phone?
Bare in mind that I was not blocking him on his side of the road, it is a single track bit in a very small village

Not read the whole thead, so if this has been posted above, sorry.
Perhaps take the OPs question out of context.
If you saw someone committing a crime that may harm of kill someone as a consequence, would you say anything?
It is all very well saying it is none of my business. It could be your business if you open the door one day to a family liason officer...

I think everyone pretty much agrees with the principle of intervening/calling the police to report a crime. The thread's about phone use though, which hardly qualifies for the same league!Perhaps take the OPs question out of context.

I get what you mean but I think that in general trying to get people to stop doing little things because it might, maybe cause an accident is a bad direction to go in.
I take it all those who give mobile users a jolly good telling off also flash your lights at someone doing over 75 on a motorway?
I am capable of concentrating on more than one thing at once, and if I'm stopped in traffic at a set of lights i use regularly and am familiar with the timing of I will occasionally use my phone and will continue to do so.
Blanket obedience of every petty law is idiotic. Using them as guidance while applying a bit of common sense is the way forward.
