New Porsche Cayenne Diesel
Discussion
Anyone got any views on the Satnav? It regularly gives me totally unrealstic journey times eg. this morning's 8am commute to work which it estimated at 23 mins versus the 46 mins per Google Maps on my iPhone? The journey couldn't be done in 23 mins at 4am on a Sunday morning! Every other ETA seems wildly optimistic. Anyone else share this view?
ps. I don't hang around!

Sorry, I don't understand this bit.Are you saying its not truly keyless or that it looks a bit wrong?

Opinions on the air/ non air debate have been many but I was really surprised to discover bugger all difference detectable to my bum in the driver or passenger seat as a result of the air. The pasm comfort / normal / sport modes felt comparable. On that basis alone I would recommend anyone paying for air to be very clear they know what they are paying for. On my unscientific comparison- not a lot!
My experience is the same. I guess it depends what sort of driving you do and what type of roads you travel on but for the admittedly limited distance (15 miles) that I drove a cayenne on air suspension I didn't notice a great difference. I do have PASM, which the dealer advised was a good selling option, but hardly ever use it and when I have I can't say it's especially noticeable. I love the car but on some surfaces the ride can feel unsettled even if you have PASM or air suspension or both. At least that is my experience. When it comes to options that have wowed me - it has to be the Xenons. Head and Shoulders above any other Xenons I have experienced and I can hardly imagine night driving without them.
I got my S Diesel yesterday with a fairly high spec. No discount available and I didn't expect to get one given the demand and supply and the reviews it is getting in the motoring press.
I drove home grinning from ear to ear. The stop-start works really well and I didn't find it concerning or impacted the driving experience.
The ride and performance is great, especially after doing the PEC driving day in the same demonstrator car so you can really appreciate how these things move.
So far the features that the family most love are:
1. In car handsfree phone calls
2. Panoramic roof
3. Air suspension+towbar
4. Cargo management
5. USB/Aux interface for phones/ipods etc
6. The Xenon PDLS system is a revelation
7. LED lighting package in the car and boot lid
8. 20" wheels as a compromise between performance and comfort
The driver multifunction display is really cool to scroll through functions you are using and redialling numbers on the move.
I also got the underside of the wing mirrors colour-matched to the car since I missed the option off the build spec. I have seen these cars with the standard black plastic and it would be a definite tick for me on any Porsche. Looking at cars in the showroom without this, it degrades the overall effect of the paintwork to have black lower mirror housings.

Hello All,
I have a Dec 2010 Audi Q5 S Line 3.0 Diesel and although the car has been great and I really enjoy driving it, I am considering to change for a cayenne Diesel. Obviously I will drive the Cayenne when I am in UK in summer and see how they compare. I see the performance of the Cayenne is a little behind the Q5 but I suppose in the real world hardly noticable, for me the interior and finish is at another level with the Porsche.
My perfect spec would be simple but include; 20" wheels, air suspension, PASM, sat nav, grey or white with black interior. I have seen a couple of used ones with this spec (about one year old) but the prices are not far from new prices, they seem to be holding the value quite well so far.
Has anyone owned both or compared both? any feedback would be appreciated.
Kev.

The Q5 is a smaller & lighter car than the Cayenne so it should be faster for the same engine size.I have a Dec 2010 Audi Q5 S Line 3.0 Diesel and although the car has been great and I really enjoy driving it, I am considering to change for a cayenne Diesel. My photos above give you an idea of the spec in midnight blue with grey interior with tinted brake clusters. Interior is amazing.

Some photos as mentioned above. I opted for the black window surrounds and the black PDLS option too.

Colour matched lower wing mirror

Grey interior

The rear looks purposeful, the side elegant, and the interior plush.Colour matched lower wing mirror
Grey interior
The Cayenne can do all this and more, exceptional
Enjoy in the best of health

Haven't owned a Q5 but have had one for a couple of days on 2 occasions while my wife and daughter's cars were being serviced. I liked the Q5 a lot and thought about one before deciding on a Cayenne partly because I thought my wife might find it easier on occasions she needs a bigger vehicle. Then I drove the Cayenne and became smitten.
I found the Q5 was fun to drive but handling of the Cayenne is a different level.
The Q5 seemed bigger on the outside than the in. That is for a car of it's dimensions I found the interior very lacking in space and comfort.
Audi have good interior design and quality but, as you said, the Cayenne is a different level. Same goes for my experience with the dealers.
On the downside my wife loves driving the Cayenne and has none of the anticipated uneasiness with taking it into multi-story car parks so it disappears off the drive more than I expected.
The Cayenne seems to hold it's value well (so does the Q5 if you buy through an appointed dealer). I think you will find much better value with a private purchase if you are happy to go down that route. If not they are probably better value new.
