With all the suggestions of Bonnies here and elsewhere, I've been reading some reviews and it seems to be a good bike. So, I'm going to test one next week. Am I getting over the Harley? Not sure yet.

'er indoors will be happy if I go for the Bonnie...... she's buying it!

Bonnies are great -- love mine. Dark blue and cream. A cinch to ride.

Why does the top one of those look better than in Triumph's own photos, I wonder.

You might want to hang on a bit if you are in the market for a big V-Twin as the new Indian range is to be unveiled at Sturgis next month.

Probably look like the old ones but with the new 111 cui Thunderstroke engine.

Have you seen the price of the current Indian range, they make Harleys look cheap!

The Breakout is going to be a big seller. Many of my customers are ordering them now.....
Main caveat is the Softail rear suspension isn't that great, but can be upgraded.
Be warned! H-D bikes are very addictive. Once you buy one, you'll be forever buying stuff to put on it. Everyone does, thankfully... keeps me in business.
Lots of reviews on the Breakout, both in American Iron and American V this month.

Softail suspension can be sorted, I just fitted Shotgun air suspension to mine, imported the shocks from the US. Absolutely transformed the ride and handling. Pricey though :-)

I've got an Evo' FXR (1992) and a Bonnie.
Whilst the Bonnie is a cracking bike it lacks the sense of occasion of the Harley. They are like an Audi and a Dodge Charger, nowt wrong with either but if you want what one delivers then the other just wont do.
I bought my Bonnie back in November as I hadn't ridden the Harley much for ages (mainly due to an injury that makes it uncomfortable) and it has done everything I've asked of it but already I'm thinking of selling it... I got it to try and get back into riding distances as it's a comfortable, sensible bike. It's actually inspired me to want to chop and change the Harley about to see if I can get comfortable on it again, that must say something... tho' I'm not sure what...
Having said that the other half finds the Bonnie really comfortable so that's a point in its favour.
Whichever you get I'm sure you'll enjoy...

The new ones start at $18999, which will be about £18000 over here, which is slap bang in the middle of big twins price range.

Rocket 111 all day.
I was in the same position, needed to slow down a bit aswell and went to look at harleys but wasnt taken by them tbh. Went to triumph dealership and the 1st thing we noticed was they had 3 harleys in the showroom that had been PX in for .....Rocket 111"s.
That said it all really, after riding one on demo I placed my order, what a machine.
Try one before you decide, you will be glad you did.

Report on test ride. Didn't ride it myself as I didn't want to be tempted to buy a 3rd HD. My buddy is wanting to trade his Ducati Diavel and took it for a spin around the hell hole known as Lakeside! he was underwhelmed by it's lack of personality. This is a man who has owned many bikes, including the night train that he still raves about. The dealer promised to put some more interesting pipes on it as he was fed up with people saying it was like a japanese bike. No offence I personally like Kawasaki. It's just too civilised for me. It looks great with that huge back tyre and the riding position looks so cool but you need Vance and Hines and a Stage 1 as a minimum. Will be at the Ace on Thursday....look out for my 48 Bobber number plate HE11 OMG.

Thanks for the feedback. Two questions: how tall is your mate and did he find the riding position comfortable? And did he feel he had to fight the bike to get it round corners (thinking about that big back tyre)?

That's a £26k pork scratching on wheels.

I saw a Victory the other day and whilst I've never been a fan it looked much nicer made than any HD I've ever seen and the owner loved it.
