Now all the stupid speculation will start. The Beeb and Sky will be scrambling OB vehicles from Woolwich to Stansted. 'Aviation Expert' phones will be red hot. Range Rovers leaving Hereford at speed would be a true barometer of any big incident
Actually that'll be the bomb doctors from Abingdon

BBC are reporting an "incident". Sound a little more serious than someone flicking nuts around in economy...

Describing it as "an incident" covers everything that could possibly have happened http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22658979

I love the way they describe the Typhoons being launched to "investigate". No, they're launched so they can shoot the bugger down if all else fails
What sort of "investigation" could one ever hope to achieve flying alongside?
They are mainly investigating the integrity of the fight deck. Are the pilots alive, at their seats, is anyone else in the flight deck with them. That sort of thing.

This makes little sense - the plane was 10mins out of Manchester.
From Wikipedia:Stansted has been designated by the UK Government as its preferred airport for any hijacked planes requesting to land in the UK. This is because its design allows a hijacked airliner to be isolated well away from any terminal buildings or runways, allowing the airport to continue to operate while negotiations are carried out, or even while an assault or rescue mission is undertaken. Staff at the airport receive special training for dealing with hijacks.[37] For this reason Stansted has been involved in more hijack incidents than might be expected for an airport of its size.
