After hearing from a colleague about some Ferrari depreciation of >£100k in 2 years, what is the most you have ever lost on a car upon resale?

Are we talking "most during ownership" or "most per month"?

I would say most during ownership.....purchase price versus resale!

Peak for me was an average of just under £1,000/year on a mk1 MR2.

Although I did lose 100% on my Silvia and second RX7, that was still only £50/month.

Lowest was -£25/year.

Huge thanks to people who buy new cars, whithout whom I wouldn't have enjoyed decades of interesting cars without spending much money.

Seems reasonable to me.

I try to get away with at the most £1500 a year.. Means I have to buy at around 5 years old though.

Most I've ever lost is £850 over 2 years and 20,000 miles on the Impreza in my profile. Only wish it'd cost me that much in fuel! smile

£150, because a battered old Escort I bought with ten months' MOT I subsequently had to sell with it expired hehe

The rest are a written off £300 car that I presume doesn't count, an Audi that I sold for the same £950 I paid for it, another Audi that I sold for twice the £600 I paid for it, and now I think my E46 is still worth what I paid. Imagine I'll lose some on that eventually, but at £1750 it doesn't have far to fall.

Sorry, is shedding not allowed here? biggrin

I was annoyed when I sold the €1300 Mondeo to a scrap man nearly two years later for €75 after doing 25,000 in it but reading some of the posts here it seems mega cheap!

Just under 12k in 3 years of owning an e46 m3.

Bought near peak of market at the time, ended up taking it to almost 100k miles resulting in an unfavorable car to sell on hence the big loss.

for me its £3200 over 5 years.

Paid £3400 for a 106 GTi and sold 5 years later for £200 which went to auction and I believe it went for £400.

Volvo C30 T5. £23k list (but got 20% off on family deal) 2 years 4 months later traded in for £9k. Private sale attempts were futile despite low price. Woe is me.

£2,200 on a Mazda MX-5, but it did 100,000 miles in my ownership, so I can't complain at all.
