I'm getting a company car next week which will leave me with 3.

Can't see the Boxster getting much use, but am loathed to let it go. Especially as it has recent £1500 quid spent on its upkeep.

I have pitched in the higher bracket of what I might get. But I would rather keep it than see it in the Poverty Pork section as buy of the week!

Any advert saying "no offers" immediately turns people away. Everybody likes something off an asking price no matter what that price may be.

Definitely a lot better, although over-filled wheelie bins don't make the best back drops!

I don't believe in haggling. The price is what I want, if someone doesn't want to pay it, saves me the time.

Honesty is the best policy. Whats the point in listing it for 9300 if I only want 8900. Had few enquiries already and a test drive lined up Thursday, guy from Leeds so we will see.

The point is that it's human psychology. It's advantageous to play to it, always has been.

Look how different products are sold differently. Kitchens with '70%off', cars with balloons and supermarket food with 3 for the price of 2.

It's all complete bks. But it's well proven.

I agree with him above

advertise it for an extra 500 quid and put ONO in the ad. I reckon that will help too

It'll be interesting to see what you get. I have just sold a facelift 2003 S manual on 80k miles (new engine though at 20) in tip top condition. Tom (911V) advised me to start at 7950. I started at 8400 and got no bites. Dropped it to 7950 and it then sold at 7500.

I too am happy to to haggle as when buying the no offers thing puts me off. Just human nature!

Good luck with the sale.

Good ad pics are great, but why is it not on PH? You're pitching it to more of an enthusiast market on here, which should mean less people arsing you around.

Haggling is part of buying and selling cars. Always will be. I'm from your part of the world, and I know we like to call a spade a spade, but your ad' comes across as harsh and unfriendly. A blunt 'no offers' will put a lot of people off because you don't seem good to deal with. There are many ways to achieve the same thing. The bit about the cherished number and insurance also comes across harshly. Again, there are ways of saying the same thing in a more approachable way. I'm sure the impression you give isn't accurate, but I'd expect to come and see some grumpy arsed Yorkshireman stood with his arms folded and essentially saying, "there it is, take it or leave it and be quick about it." I'd rather go and look at another car where the guy seems a lot more approachable...and will probably end up getting more money out of me!

Suppose it depends on the car, I put in my ad that the price was the price as I wasn't in any rush to sell the car and it sold to the first serious person within 3 weeks of advertising. Admittedly I didn't accept a slightly lower offer in negotiation, but it didn't put the buyer off contacting me and ultimately doing the deal.

Ive got a 3.2S..manual, with a hard top, and full oxblood embossed leather seats, with 53000 on clock
So According to this vauation, would i be right to ask for 10k ?
I doubt you will get anywhere near that price through a classified ad. I have the same with new wishbones and arms all round, new M030 suspension, good tread depth Contis, some upgrades but can't see it making over £9k on a lucky day. For a real enthusiast owned car I think the best price would be had from an owners club/forum where people appreciate the money spent a bit more and can see a 'story' behind a car.

Never had much success selling on PH to be honest. That includes moving M-tech BMWs, 911 C4S and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

eBay seems to work as DID Autotrader, don't think it does any more! Just had scammers targeting me.

Once my other adverts expire I will give PH a go.

Thanks for feedback

I have to say the same. Got ads on PH and ebay. The ebay enquiries by in large have been fairly sensible however the PH replied have been dreamers thus far. When the phone rings and the opening line is "Awright big chap how's aboot a shot in that motor yir sellin, it looks pure mintit an av goot a pocket fae o Benjamin's burnin a hole in ma pocket" you know your heading for the realms of PH gold!

We sold the 996 C2 through PH within 6 days - contacted by two buyers (both seemed reasonable) and it was gone after the first viewing.

Your pics are not too bad but you need to get down lower and take some 3/4 front and 3/4 rear shots to show off the curves of the car and the shine down the sides as everyone loves shiny cars, also try and take your pictures with the sun low i.e. first thing in the morning or just before dusk as this has the best light, also once the sun has set with a clear overhead sky you can get a bright top half and darker lower half reflection effect on the paint.

Black is a difficult colour to photograph you need to use your surroundings to show reflections in the paint.

Here is a couple pictures I took of my old black Scirocco although the pictures were taken in bright sun I wasn't trying to get the car looking good as such I was trying to get the best reflections.

That looks better.

But what will really sell it are pictures of a scantily clad wife draped over the bonnet (doesn't have to be your wife if she's a munter).

Happy to give more advice if needed.
