But its a fact that pretty much any modification to the likes of Porsche will invalidate their warranty, even down to non N rated tyres.
Even the likes of a tracker has to be Porsche approved & fitted by them.
I wonder how bell deal with that?
I'm going to guess that they don't deal with it.Even the likes of a tracker has to be Porsche approved & fitted by them.

Think about the typical person who will be using this kind of insurance product and then think about the typical person who is buying a Porsche still in warranty.
Then again, from what the OP said, it sounded like it was compulsory for that particular policy.

Do I have to pay for the Drivesafe box that goes in my car?
No, we pay for the Drivesafe box and installation. However, if you change your car then you would have to pay for a new box to be fitted.
I assume you are joking. Where DO they get their money?http://www.theaa.com/insurance/telematic-insurance...

I have a box fitted in my car and i swear to god its faulty!!
it says I accelerate and break hard..
well im sorry im from Sheffield... there are lots of hills in Sheffield and i need to accelerate (NOT SOUNDING LIKE A BOY RACER) but i need to accelerate when im setting off up a hill.
iv even had my old driving instructor in my car with me and we been on a drive different places and even she said im not braking hard or accelerating hard at all.
so i called my insurance and told them who gave me octotelematics number and i called them and told the woman who i was and she was like oh im sorry i can not discuss this information with you... i was like WTF... its my policy... its my car etc.. so i called my insurance back up and complained that they would not release information about the box. ( i wanted to know if it was faulty or not)
all i can say is that its going to help me save about £400 on this years insurance...
i mean fair enough some boxes that are fitted restrict u from driving at certain times and stuff.. like mine dosent.. well i have to drive to work some morning at 6 in the morning... and late at night like 11 pm and sure the box some times picks that up but it dosent care. also another thing what pissed me off about the box... it scores u on a website where u can log in and check ur score...
1 week it said i was average... and the next week it snowed really bad so i didnt move my car what so ever from the drive way at home... the next week i checked the score and it said excellent driving i was like eh wtf!!!!! surely it should of said nill or something?!

Does anyone believe that technology stays still?
Look at the plethora of data gathering that goes on today. Even if the initial black box is a simple device, it will inevitably become more and more sophisticated. All technology does. So, once these things are installed, the "improved, advanced, more secure" and much more powerful device will follow with even more useful driver feedback. Why not a built-in dash cam?. Look how much power is in your iPhone or Galaxy, and costs peanuts relatively.
Once you have this thing, it will gather more and more information, and the the insurance companies will have questions if you change suppliers:
"Have you ever had a black box device'?
" Why did you deactivate"?
" Aha,,,what are you hiding about your intentions?.
And then you are negative-optioned to keep it or get penalized.

I can understand how this works for the younger generation, but what about the older 35-55 years olds do they also get a discount on there insurance?
I mean my insurance is £189 fully comp for a declared mapped car, what would be the incentive on that sort of premium?
Not much I wager.

If anything, it'll make your premium more expensive. I mean my insurance is £189 fully comp for a declared mapped car, what would be the incentive on that sort of premium?

How many times can the same question be asked on the same thread? You're not the target market therefore its not the right product for you so don't buy it. I mean my insurance is £189 fully comp for a declared mapped car, what would be the incentive on that sort of premium?

I have often wondered how these magic boxes know if you have just pulled out on someone? did a dangerous overtake? are driving drunk? have zero road sense, are prome to road rage etc etc etc.
And another repeated question. They can't yet. Note the "yet" in time they will be linked to an all round camera system and you'll be monitored to hell if you choose this product. It will always be an "if" though as you have choices and always will have. ED209 said:

Fairly simple, if indirectly. If you drive like this then you will no doubt incur claims costs. Or maybe higher costs than if you don't do these things. If the box can recognise a signature to the driving of those that have higher claims costs, then we can penalise these drivers and reward the others. And contact them to help improve.
Whilst it may not be boxes, the idea that you can price towards the individual rather than the group (or at least differentiate risk within a group) is where insurance is headed. The rise of "big data" in rating will only continue.

Second and third questions are of the "when did you last beat your wife?" ilk, very hard to answer without incriminating yourself."Have you ever had a black box device'?
" Why did you deactivate"?
" Aha,,,what are you hiding about your intentions?.
