I'm no expert, but looks expensive to me? 12 years old, 120,000 miles, cloth? I think the seller is making the mistake of thinking the car is worth the sum of his bills.
Perhaps to somebody it's worth closer to the sum of its bills. If I needed another E39 I wouldn't be particularly bothered whether its 2k or 3k or 4k but I would be very bothered about its history, condition and the owners attitude to running it. If it means paying 'over book' for one with proper tyres, a good service record and great condition then so be it. Depends if you want a 'best' barge or a 'bargain' barge. Really nice examples are very hard to find now - why let one walk for the sake of a grand extra (Assuming it's a minter, of course!).

You could quite easily buy one that needs at least a grand worth of work doing to sort it out. Whats wrong with therefore paying 'over book' for one which needs nothing?
That's exactly what I wanted to say!

And I'd only add..."And in so doing save yourself all the hassle."

Also, I'd rather have that interior...looks like Alcantara sides etc to me? Would much prefer that to leather.

Could be 200,000 kilometres? As ad states 130,000 miles?
Course it is! Doh.

I'd love it....a real petrolhead's motor cool

Then again.....for a third of the cost...the price has dropped a tad on this shiny thing..

Speedo on that m5 has either been modded to read mph (but is missing the required mph sticker) or still only reading kmh which is allegedly illegal for use in uk

Didn't Mr Harris have one of these? Seem to recall it met an unfortunate end....

That does look lovely for the money - can't see sat-nav, unless they did a text based system as a lower cost option to the touch screen one?

Makes my S8 look a bit pricey but probably much lower bork factor with mine smile

They did a monochrome LCD screen sat nav, I have it in mine but haven't tried it yet!

Didn't know that - always assumed the smaller screens were for climate and stereo smile

It isn't worth the battery drain to turn it on - it's a turn-based system that was crap when it was new, let alone a decade later.

I have the touch screen in my bargain basement cars with no reserve s-type. It is awful but the women sounds ace.

I don't necessarily think it justifies the "best example for sale" quote, but this looks alright...

Yeah... saw that. Bit odd. Missing pixels is a non issue as it's a cheap fix. Hmm...

I love these old things, and as it's auto it counts as a barge (though I know they are unpopular).

Not sure of the mileage regarding the speedo change, and it appears to be wearing different wheels in different photos. But it's had lots done and, most importantly, I just like looking at the e28 shape! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C367339#

It must be good. You need insurance just to go and view it.

The blue one on style 32's looks like a bargain for £2400... Get rid of the stupid angel eyes and make a few quid back.

Please read following description but all I can say is that it drives faultlessly:-
Automatic, Biaritz Blue metallic, full beige leather, comfort seats (electric seats plus lumbar and shoulder support, electric column and memory), ABS, ASC, climate control (dual zone), cruise control, electric roof, electrochromatic rear view mirror, headlamp washers, BMW wood trim, multi airbags, electric memory steering column, rain sensor, steptronic gearbox, traction control, fog lights, load cover with dog guard, cargo net, M Sports suspension, 6 CD changer, M Tec multifunction steering wheel, original BMW GSM car phone, de-badged, 2 keys, extensive folder of all bills of work, MOTs, receipts, tax discs.

Some subtle modifications are:

  • Angel eye fronts with HID kit
  • Clear side and rear indicators
  • Genuine facelift grills
  • M5 steering box
  • Style 32 17” staggered alloys
The car is in excellent condition for its year. It even has the original BMW tool kit in the tailgate, the BMW torch in the glove compartment and the first aid kit under the passenger seat. The bodywork has a few light scratches and marks, but they are hardly noticeable. The dash has a few missing pixels, but the MID is perfect. The interior is virtually unmarked and belies its age. The tailgate has a small amount of rust around the number plate and along the bottom edge.

All repairs and servicing in the last 5 years have been carried out by BMW independent specialist Bensten Motors in St Ives. Prior to that, the previous owner also used main dealers, Benstens and other independents. A comprehensive folder containing all receipts, bills of work, bill, old MOTs and tax discs is included.

In the last 12 months the cars has had the following work done:

  • New gearbox oil cooler
  • Catalytic converters
  • Camshaft sensor
  • Suspension ride height sensors
  • Thermostat Radiator replaced
