Now a Lions tour is all well and good, but it does somewhat tend to push other rugby content off the back pages of the papers.
Thus, I have discovered somewhat to my surprise that Bath signed Gavin Henson last week, and to my delight, that the French got absolutely steamrollered by the All Blacks at the weekend!
I only saw the Henson news because my daughter's RugbyTots coach tweeted about it (not positively!). The statement from Bath Rugby is along the lines that Henson has matured and will be an asset to the club. I remain to be convinced...Thus, I have discovered somewhat to my surprise that Bath signed Gavin Henson last week, and to my delight, that the French got absolutely steamrollered by the All Blacks at the weekend!

A lot of clubs have said that about him.He had his moments at the Blues, but burned his bridges as usual.

Pretty much sums it up, to be fair. I rate him massively as a player and it's no coincidence that the only seasons he played any real part in the 6N (2005 & 2008), Wales won the grand slam. But what a massive and sad waste of talent.
How did he do for London Welsh last year?

Reports are he did alright for them. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing if he can string some appearances together for a team like Bath, without getting pissed and chinning/insulting any teammates.
Because, despite all the BS, under their somewhere is an awesome rugby player. The question is does he still have it, having spent so much time out of the game.
In Lions news - BCM is talking up Shane as a test bolter...

AWJ was MoM. Warburton had a good game....was good at the breakdown, slowing Tahs ball without winning turnovers.
Easier to say who didn't. Maitland was probably the poorest performer, Phillips and Heaslip both had "average" games though the former might be because there was quite a bit of slow ball from the breakdown.
Scrum time was okay, certainly wasn't a dominating performance.
Scott Quinell was saying on Sky he's convinced the Lions are holding back at scrum time and lineout (POC's hardly been thrown any ball all tour). Apparently during the last Aussie tour Scott Johnson was a ball boy at one of the warm up games and in close attendance at a few others so by the time it came to the tests he reckoned he knew what every Lions call was going to be...
Thanks for the update mate, I got to read it while I was away but was in the blackhole of Calcutta with no internet access and limited phone signal. To make myself feel better I'm off tomorrow to watch the game live Easier to say who didn't. Just watched the game overall impressed. Back row still a headache which is why I'd have liked to have seen SOB get a test at 8 but agree TF would offer more balance. Big fan of AWJ but I think there would be more balance with Parling or Gray-AWJ in for POC but that's not going to happen-just think mobility may be a key point. Hooker, jury still out? Not Best though.
Davis should have done more than enough to start now particularly with Roberts out the first test, and Tuilangi getting little game time-you still feel Gatland like to have that one battering ram in the centres though.
Croft for me at 6 was interested to say in his post match interview that he knows he doesn't hit the rucks etc but it such a potential game breaker and seen some good work from him on the deck too, how long till 1/2p gets offered big money to go to France then? Bit of a so so performance from Philips for me but will start.
Whoever the first 15 is the variety on the bench will offer the chance of a plan B to really change things up (in the pack mostly). If North is injured wings worry me, what a season/summer for Christian Wade.
Quite looking forward to this one, interesting starting 15.
Should still be the opportunity for at least a handful of this lot to start on Saturday with a good showing today although I think the pack is nailed on in Gatlands mind. I'd like to see TF have a big game as JH worries me a bit.
Wade to get into the test side after a hat trick today......
