I should join the club. I've clicked on the Regional Club link and I see there is a region for Dorset and Hampshire. I live in Hampshire, but the Dorset meeting place is only 20 minutes from my house (and as it turns out, right next door to my dad’s house) whereas the Hampshire meeting place is an hour away.
Do you have to specify when you sign up which region you’d like to be a member of? Don’t suppose it matters if I select Dorset does it? Is the Dorset region as active as the Hampshire region?
Doesnt really matter which meet you goto, I was up in Norfolk last year and a meet happened to coincide with my visit, so I popped in to join them.Do you have to specify when you sign up which region you’d like to be a member of? Don't know much about Dorsets meets and numbers, but Hampshire does have a very large fanbase with monthly meets averaging 40+ cars which for a region meet is impressive.
I joined this afternoon
Found out my closest meeting is the Somerset group and as it happens I've already met the RO.
Hi B3NNL
We met at Bridgwater services on the way to Big Col at TVRSS for an open day, I was in a black 450 and your mate was in his orange Westerham type thing. He had a lovely watch but didn't much like our motorway speed
Anyway, I should be along to to the local meet the next Sunday that I can. BTCC this weekend
So maybe next week. Mind you, I don't actually have the car at the moment
So may well arrive in a.......... cough cough...... Golf
At least it's a Mk1 Clipper.

The next meet is a big one, Brooklands 12th May, Convoy leaves Somerset at 8ish details on the regions site. Or if you really want to man it up, come along to London at sparrows fart for TiTT9 and we'll end up at Brooklands to meet the region later that morning.

Really?
I've just seen this thread and am somewhat bemused?
I'm the Somerset RO and was cc'd in the email sent to you by the person in question Tincan. He only introduced the region and what were upto over the next few months. Yes he did ask you for some info regarding yourself, but nothing overly probing. So not quite sure what concerned you that much?
As for Justifying a passion by linking it to a charity remark, the car is the main poster piece for the event and its dressed up accordingly.
Car clubs aren't for everyone, but the TVRCC is one of the more social clubs I've had the pleasure of membership. I've yet to come across any model snobbery or one one-upmanship. I've taken my wife to quite a few functions (the latest being the Chatsworth warm-up bash at Shrigly hall (Thanks Angus!)) and she had a great time! How many car clubs do other halves get actively included?
We like to talk about the cars and we like to drive them, some of us polish them more than others but ultimately its about being part of an extended family.
As for Somerset, no folding chairs and flat caps here I'm afraid. Just run outs, monthly meets and great company. If that interests you, then please feel free to pop along, if not, then thats fine too.
Whatever you do, enjoy the car.
Benn.
p.s. If you do join the Club, you will require the clubs logo to be tattoo'd on your backside though!
Thanks for the post Benn, I want to point out my comments were intended to be mostly humorous. I was a little surprised for the request for info but I recognise it was also well intended and up to me to give or not give. I've just seen this thread and am somewhat bemused?

The world is a little more sad for having to be a little careful about what you pass on nowadays, but I would like you to know there was no offence intended.
I'm happy to give the club/meets a go and see how things work out from there
Do you have any of those tattoos in the stick on variety?

No dramas Tincan, the chap that approached you is very enthusiastic when it comes to TVRs and the club, as such I can see how you may have been somewhat taken aback when he pounced on you.The world is a little more sad for having to be a little careful about what you pass on nowadays, but I would like you to know there was no offence intended.

Rest assured that we are about as far away from anorak wearing fan club as you could imagine. A fair few of the regions members have their pride and joys tucked up in their garages, we see them for 6 months of the year and they are polished to within an inch of their lives. There are then my "Hard core" followers that have come out on some drives I've organised where the conditions have been absolutely abysmal to say the least!
Its a great group and as has been mentioned previously, if something goes wrong with the car, there are a load of us available on the end of a phone for help and advice.
Like I said, next meet is Sunday 12th heading off to Brooklands or join us the next month at Haselbury Mill.
You are more than welcome, regardless of whether you join the club or not.
Cheers Benn.

I don't usually comment on these types of discussions due to being an RO and everyone having their own opinion, but I was following the thread on the forum yesterday and it was getting a bit... aggressive/personal from both sides. I'm not surprised it was closed down to give it some cooing down.
It's not unique, same thing happens here or on any moderated forum. It's part of the mods job. I've done it myself on forums I've run in the past when the conversation was getting a bit OTT.
That's the only point I will make on this thread.
Cheers

Really wouldn't bother with the TVRCC, it's more like animal farm. All the members are equal but some are more equal than others. If they don't agree with your point of view in the discussion forum they simply take away your right to free speech and disable your account.

I don't know which thread is been spoken about here as far as I'm aware (and we discuss these things) nothing has been locked nor anyone's account suspended, indeed Mr Brown has posted (on what I assume is the thread in question) yesterday evening. It's not unique, same thing happens here or on any moderated forum. Mr Brown and I (a TVRCC moderator) are having a 'discussion' about the what he sees as unevenhanded treatment with the distribution of a few CarFest tickets.

I agree with that Alex. It was probably the right time to close that thread as me and Dave were clearly never going to agree. But I've been completely frozen out of the clubs forum.
Mr Browns account is not suspended, never has been and indeed he's logged in now and looking at the Forum Index.Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
