If you had 9 points how would you drive...?

This is the thing: he isn't. He has no interest in cars or driving at all; he uses a car to get from A to B. Nothing more. All his fines have been for driving round town 38 in a 30 type of stuff.
Sounds like this is the only thing he should be driving:

:P

I was on nine points for about a year.
3 points in 2008 and then 6 points in 2010 ( expire this year around August).
For that year I was driving to London from Scotland and doing a lot of miles around London which is the camera capital of the world. Paranoid? Oh yes.
Driving 1mph below the limit everywhere.... Oh yes!
Also, to stop or help to prove otherwise I wasn't using a mobile if one of these new breed of blind coppers happened to imagine/see/mistakenly see/make up me using a mobile I also bought a CCTV camera with a camera facing in as well as out.
I'm on six now ut still driving a lot more sensible speed wise as I was before....my day in court showed me that it just ain't worth it. Gone are the days when a copper could pull you and just give you a warning.... Which was generally enough, they generally just go for the fpn or court.

Anyone who gets banned for speeding while they already have nine points on their licence deserves it IMO. Speeding may not inherently be dangerous, but anyone who lacks the mental faculty or common sense to obey the speed limits when they know that being caught will result in a ban shouldn't be on the road at all because they're highly likely to be a menace in other ways.

+1I'd 8 points on my licence ten years ago which meant if i'd a bad day and picked up 2 x 3 points i'd have lost my licence.
Bad situation but you have to learn from it, or get put off the road.

If I had 9 points I'd be driving without a licence!
This thread has just reminded me I'll gain a 6 point buffer in a month. Happy days. I'd probably drive in the same way I do now as I've never had any points before! The key is not getting caught, it would seem.

If I'd got nine points I'd be driving like a tortoise.
I'd be driving like a tortoise after 6!Sorry to say it but I think a ban would teach him a lesson - it's not a right, if you don't have any drive to change your behaviour as necessary you shouldn't be there.
When I was young and stupid I managed to accrue 14 points in quick succession from an IN10 and SP30. Being the silver tongued devil that I am I managed to sweet talk the magistrate into not banning me but thinking back I don't recall making any changes to way I drove at all. I must've either instinctively reined myself in without realising it or was extremely lucky not to get caught over the 3 years that followed.

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/number_of_d... on a bit from the op, I'm sure I read recently about an FoI request detailing the numbers of drivers on over 12 points.
Made for truly shocking reading. IIRC, sold had over 20....
Edit - according to one source, someone had 33 and is still on the road.

I have had a clean licence for the last 14 years or so, although I do have to attend a little driver awareness course later this month due to travelling ever so slightly too quickly through a specs zone on the M4
You are the first person I have ever head or read of as being caught speeding through a specs zone!!
I always cruise at the GPS indicated limit, but will always get overtaken, I came to accept that the cameras never work but still erred on the side of caution. Glad I have been!

He's in for a ban then... unless he can prove he needs his car for his livlihood and has a very lenient judge.
Yup, if I were on nine points I'd be very careful.
Needing the car for him won't save him. Yup, if I were on nine points I'd be very careful.
"I totally care if you lose your job! Here, I'm not going to ban you for racking up 18 points", said no magistrate ever.
I got 3 sets of 3 points in 3 months.
I tried driving within the limits - that lasted about a day.
I resigned myself to getting a ban.
It didn't happen.
I've had a clean license now for 10+ years - no one can understand how that can be the case, I guess I'm just lucky (albeit I'm also observant)
