TDC on 1 - the left front when sitting in the drivers seat (the usual way to describe it as per Ian's post), or right front when standing in front of the car

Morning Guys
Well went out yesterday evening to check the timing and think I am losing my marbles as when checked, TDC is about 4 degs out give or take a couple, so it back to the drawing board.

My next thought is maybe my fuel pump is to strong 6-7.5psi, I don't quite understand what the cause's of this could be, but I think I need to regulate down to about 5psi and if that don't work, I give up and to top it all off I have an oil leak from somewhere, great

I would now double check:

1. Mechanical advance - vacuum pipe off - should start to advance at around 2000 rpm and max out at 3000- 3500? Anyone got more accurate figures? And up to 25 degrees of advance.

2. Vacuum advance - 10 to 15 degrees depending on your suck ;^)

Do it with the timing light while running/revving the engine.

Oh - and when you set the "standard" advance to 6 deg BTDC at idle, you did take the vacuum pipe off, didn't you?

Ralph... just a thought re the fuel pump are you still running the original EFi pump??? If so you will have way too much pressure for your carb set-up fella?

Morning Chris
Yes it was replaced mate, having read eldebrocks pdf it appears 6psi is max so it could be its flooding the carb and causing the over fuelling issue? am unsure, bloody thing is driving me mad, cheers
