Latest update from the rumour mill:-

https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/2019-iphones/

Looks like 3 choices of iPhone size but sadly nothing as small as my favourite the iPhone 4. That was a great pocket sized device.

What size does the battery and OS dictate perhaps? My 6s can be atrocious but the recent beta and dark mode means I can get two days (with no use).

There were problems with the battery life on the 6. I upgraded from a 6 to X which was a big improvement.

The main issue here is that there won’t be 5G capability in this year’s release of new iPhones. Given that Huawei, Samsung, Oneplus and LG already have 5G capable phones out, it’s pretty piss poor for Apple, supposedly the biggest player in the smartphone world, not to have it yet.
I used to upgrade every 2 years, but I’m still holding on to my iPhone 7, because there just hasn’t been much improvement worth paying for since then. I would upgrade for this one, as my battery is suffering but not worth it to then lose money in 2020 when they finally bring out a 5G capable phone.

Yeah, got mine changed with the £20 quid offer. It will do for now. Maybe next time around.

Not sure why 5g is a must for anyone at the moment. I know some of the benefits of 5g for a mobile but not a lot of coverage around and I think it will try to find a use for the mobile. Certainly would not be at the top of any requirements for me. Might be bigging it up but I expect all the firms to big it up even if there is no use for it. I see more use in the home and pro stuff than consumer. But then it is a guess.

I haven’t looked at it in great detail, but 5G will mean much faster connection, no? Why would you not want that?
I’m in London so likely to be at the front of the queue for coverage.

Not being facetious but what are you doing on your phone that needs more than 4g? Can easily stream TV on 4g, not like I am downloading massive files to my phone - maybe you do?

I'd much sooner see a properly expansive 4g network than money plowed into 5g.

I'm on a X at the moment so the next flagship is likely to be my next phone, unless I switch away from Apple which I have been threatening for ages.

I am with you on this one, turns WiFi off phone and I am only getting 3G so let’s get decent 4g throughout the country first.

Around here I would be happy with 3 or 4 g if it worked (BT says I am in a good area, I said a I'm not, BT said I am....) and if they are having difficulty then 5g will need to be more robust and more dense a network as far as I can make out. Wonder if there are any persons working on this looking in to comment?

I expect 5g will be good for downloading the odd film or something but the prices are a bit steep at the moment (and very confusing). 79 a month for a phone and unlimited from ee but not saying how long, 2 years I think?

I expect that to come down in time and have sim only deals but wonder how many will actually use the speed to the full potential. I expect a lot of pro stuff in media or work laptops etc. service agents, journalists camera crews and so on but someone posting the latest snapbookface to show off duck lips or whatever will not be touching what it could do.

It’s all a bit boring nowadays isn’t it.

I remember being excited at the iPhone launches but there’s just nothing to expect in this day and age that there is no excitement.

I do have the XS but that’s only for the camera from my previous 7 plus and I don’t think the jump was THAT big in terms of photo quality.

What do we have to expect to be excited again about a phone launch?

I think it will take something disruptive to make it exciting again.

That’s the point, what else can they get the phone to do?

I’d have been excited about a folding model but that seems a way off yet.

Large parts of the country don’t even get good 3G. Forget 5G.

That needs to be addressed. There’s an article in todays newspaper about someone who can’t do online shopping as he can’t receive an authorisation code by text from his bank.

No, 3g

Actually a mobile signal of any kind would be good.

The revised Samsung Galaxy Fold arrives in the UK on 18th September.

Who else is doing folding? Not that I would like the idea of an origami phone, sounds like a returns nightmare.

LG were showing off a roll up TV. Scale that down but even then I could not think why. Thing had to be usable.

People want big TVs when they are on, but then don't want them dominating a small living room. So any credible, affordable hideaway TV solution will be a hit - it will be the new projector
