Couple of A400 came over here about 20 mins ago. One at 20,000 feet heading up to Scotland and one was heading South having come over from Belfast. The latter was at 8,000 feet as it flew across my back garden and what a strange noise it made! Propeller like, but nothing like a Hercules for example and with a strange jet engine like noise mixed in.

Quite distinctive when you hear them isn't it, I put the difference down to the new propellers. PRTVR said:

That’s the D323 complex usually you will have an E3 up doing the fighter control then the jets doing the aerial dog fighting and FRA/Cobham providing aircraft to fight with.
