Get used to swapping bulbs - no idea why but our 9-3 eats them. In 40k miles the only front bulb I haven't changed is the passenger side indicator. Front running light go every few months ??
Ah great, that is strange well I changed the both dipped headlights as the other one will probably blow eventually (only took me 5mins) so not much precious time. Jerham said:
You can remove the top part of the water bottle for a bit more access. Just pulls off.
Yeah I saw that, I did try to pull that off but it was having none of it, didn't want to experiment using brute force and having a bigger issue to fix, luckily my hands are small and long so wasn't too bad in the end.Mileage - 103,603
As with all my cars I get a 4 wheel alignment as soon as possible. I knew I would of needed the
steering wheel straightened since I had the steering joint replacement, so booked it in.
QR Sports, Tattenhall, Chester was my nearest Hunter alignment centre, so having been here before I knew the lads know what there doing, always make the difference when they know how to align a car properly.
Here is the print out, (1 hour and 30mins) wasn't too bad, but it has transformed the car, camber adjusted and steering wheel now straight, no more wheel wobble at 70mph+ they have done a great job once again.
Few compliments from the guys and other people waiting as to the 9-3 still looking pretty sharp on its elderly platform

Needs a wash but can't be bothered, mileage may be reduced for few weeks as work "battening down the hatches" with the Covid-19 situation, to get people working at home, so we will see with that.

You've probbaly worked this out already, but the dicky steering is because one of the drains around the scuttle drips directly onto the steering UJ- perfect to wash out all the grease over time.
A small diversion with a bit of pipe will save your time and knuckles down the line!
Actually I hadn't worked that out, is that the reason it fails over time? Will definitely do this mod thanks alot - don't want to be doing that UJ again anytime soon, any links as to how best to do mod will be appreciated.A small diversion with a bit of pipe will save your time and knuckles down the line!

Mileage has stopped for the past 2 weeks!
Self imposed quarantine (tickly cough) so work sent me home, I had been to NYC and London twice in two weeks before, maybe connected but not sure, so the car has been parked up ever since i had the alignment done, shame, miss driving this car, do feel i could just go for a drive in it, but i am doing the sensible/responsible thing and leaving parked up. STAY HOME etc.
Im out of my quarantine 14 day period now, feeling better as-well. Shall be using the E91 for my first big shop today, as the 9-3 is well and truly blocked in on the drive
so don't think it will be moving for a while yet.

As someone who's gone from 25,000 miles per year to none at this rate, I feel you. I'm getting excited to go shopping just so I can go for a drive.

exactly, suddenly stopping feels so odd! I miss the routine of of the rat race (sounds weird to some) don't get me wrong being at home has it's perks, but I do miss driving. Yes my drive 3 miles to the shop is going to exciting!
So officially furloughed for 3/4 weeks now, not that it mattered as I was working remotely anyway...so with me saving quite considerable fortune on fuel...and a flat tyre to deal with, it was about time I treated the 9-3 to some new shoes...
I hang my head in shame that the rubber it is wearing isn't really ideal (X2 Blacklions / X2 Saferich)...some s
te I know, and for a car pushing nearly 200bhp and a huge chunk of torque and rather heavy, not ideal I suspect.
I did say when I bought it these would be going asap (broke my own rules when viewing a car)..but me being tight, I kept them on but they are truly awful and cracking even after two years and plenty of tread, im sure they are out of balance anyway.
So, Tyres on the drive to the rescue, with X4 Avon ZV7's...was big fan of Avon in the past, and good price for 94W rated tyres needed for this thing.

I'm actually missing my commute and driving...anyway, boring update keep safe.

Thought I would look into that "drain pipe" mod that was mentioned further up.
Seems like such a straightforward thing to do and genius to be honest!

Having located the pipe (a very blocked up one, but still dripping), it is directly above the steering joint (bad design completely), you can definitely see the lubrication being washed away with time...

Image, you see the water already sitting on top of the joint.
So, found a suncream top, tested it fitted..it does, so now need a pipe to take the water elsewhere...???

Found an old CamelBak water bag for my bike, and used the pipe on this..drilled hole in cap and stuck pipe in...

A genuine "DailyHack" drain modification
Painted up now, and put on the car, with a strategically placed screw to keep it in one place.

So there you go, thanks for this suggestion, anyone else with a 9-3 this is a easy one for you guys.

So, thought as I had some time to kill, I would get my winter set-up sorted in good time.
My bargain £50 X4 facelift linear "16 alloys I got last year...I have now had X4 winter tyres mounted (215/55/16) "Tomket Snowroads" got some good reviews for mid-range, Czech company...
probably not gonna sit well with other tyre aficionado's
, bit of an odd size but going with the recommended handbook for this car, nice beefy sidewall and stubby look, should make potholes a joy and keep my 17" Turbine alloys nice for summer
Hoping to get over to Europe/Switzerland next year to see family, so these should be adequate for their laws.
