You may not have noticed that rear drive cars and BMWs in particular are more prone to getting stuck or embedded in the scenery in winter conditions. Sometimes having only 50% of your mass over the driven wheels is disadvantageous.

(for the avoidance of doubt, all my cars are rear drive, it’s not a major issue for me but it evidently is for some)

Clearly you have never enjoyed the office car park enough When it snows my little eyes light up. Winter tyres mean you don't get stuck, silly people don't fit them.

I’m thinking that if they don’t notice/enjoy the upside of rwd, and they suffer from the downside, something like an Audi A4 might be closer to “all the car they need”.

And some who are only 2 months in with mega power way beyond 280bhp/tonne many of them and oddly not share what car it is or are - likely for fear IP address is breached then it’s home robbery of said lovely vehicles I’d wager.

You have an utter obsession with RWD and mid corner throttle response (but only at 50-60mph) that you cannot imagine _anyone_ could enjoy anything that isn't RWD...

For normal people who don't have this obsession there are plenty of FWD cars that drive _differently_ but are still enjoyable to drive.

Not clear exactly who we are talking about, to be honest! But even people who like cars and driving get different things out of cars.

Personally, I'm not a fan of trying to do it all with one car, and I don't prioritise dynamics much at all in the big, comfy, practical car. I like my E class estate for the way that it can swallow four people and two dogs and all the crap they take on holiday with them, and for the comfort and ease of the thing. If I had to have only one car, would I instead try to drive something compromised by trying to be a sporty barge? No, I think I'd just settle for dying a bit inside.
