Is it a valid/sensible alternative to a Cayman? Yes, if the quality is up to scratch - but does it move the category forward - imo NO (unless looks are your main criterion).

In most countries the Toyotas are vastly cheaper than a Cayman. It's really only in the UK that your question is pertinent.

What makes the GR86 a nailed-on classic is not that it has moved the category on; it's that it tried to keep it the same. That is what secures the legacy of the GT86 and GR86.

The new GR86 looks lovely, its a shame it sold out so quickly it would make a perfect two car garage companion for a GR-Yaris.

There's heaps of dyno tests out there from the yanks who have had these for a while.

The power curve looks very similar to the GT86, a bit smaller torque dip and pretty much just alot more eveywhere, the difference is bigger than the official numbers indicate.

I agree…that would be the only thing I would change apart from a slightly fruitier exhaust.

Not really for the masses though are they. Very limited numbers imported and currently not available to order.

In truth it couldn't be further away from the masses.

Thanks, I'm a big fan of the style of the standard rims now that they are in silver. I was going to go for a set of classic Enkei RPF1s but that budget shall be sent somewhere else now.

56 used Subaru BRZ's available
7 GR86 available (but has only just come out so less supply).

Used starting from $39,900 or £22,000...

I've just borrowed one of these for the weekend and I haven't done many miles yet...

BUT the throttle lag and 'rev hang' in between upshifts is, frankly, awful. I'm kangerooing everywhere and jerking gearshifts. I even stalled it once (I haven't stalled my MX5 in 7 years of ownership!). Is anyone else suffering from this?

I really wanted to like it (and it really is a lovely car) but this is really a deal breaker for me. Great, torquey engine though.
