Only fifteen at the time of the Falklands! Not bad for a Chief Constable.
What a dOnly fifteen at the time of the Falklands! Not bad for a Chief Constable.
head, especially as he later served in the RN. He should have some respect for those that genuinely fought, and especially those that died.

Do I remember here that someone had the amazing sticker of ‘Fenland Mountain 4x4 Rescue’ or the like?
Is that the Pidley Mountain Rescue Team (based in a village only 70ft above sea level in the middle of the Cambridgeshire Fens)? Because that's a deliberate joke. The PMRT is actually a community charity club that fundraises and provides services (inc. transport) to local people with disabilities. The name is an attention-getter, as are the 4x4s with the stickers (which are used to provide transport and are something of a deliberate piss-take). They call every time they provide a service a 'Rescue' and their larger efforts 'Missions' but it's all tongue in cheek. They're not Walts.

Wasn't there an advert on TV years ago for a beer from east Anglia featuring the Norfolk Mountain Rescue or something?
Charlie Wells did an advert for their Eagle Bitter 'sponsoring' the East Anglia Downhill Skiing Championship - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh7S1vgkEP0Koyaanisqatsi said:
Walts out in force on Chelmsford High Street yesterday deploying their finest hi-viz and knobbly tyres. I didn't ask what was in their flasks.

Surely a '4x4 Response' team is somewhat redundant in Essex? The county is already the SUV capital of the known universe, having more of the things per square inch than Saudi Arabia, and the majority are bigger, tougher and better specified than those things parked in Chelmsford High Street. The greater likelihood is that one of them will need rescuing by a passing mum on the school run when his old jeep inevitably breaks down. pocketspring said:

Just read about this and was going to post it here!Only fifteen at the time of the Falklands! Not bad for a Chief Constable.
It mentions that the police website used to make mention of his service "in the Falklands" so I'm wondering if people will have unearthed old emails and letters where he either mentioned it or left it uncorrected.
Separately, wearing his late brother's medal could have been excused, even though somebody who has served ten years in the navy should very well have known the etiquette, but wearing a medal of somebody who has only emigrated? Common sense should tell you that's not right.
Any medal experts know the ribbons? The articles mention Falklands and NI medals, which leaves three of his. One 10 year LSGC, a jubilee medal and a police medal perhaps?

That’s okay then, I’ll add my grandfather’s Bomber Command service to my LinkedIn page & wear his medals on my uniform.

He's got from left to right, South Atlantic Medal, General Service Medal 1962, Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal and Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal,I suspect the GSM he's wearing has the "Gulf" clasp (rather than Northern Ireland) which we (mainly RN with a few embarked Booties as well) got for doing tanker escort duties in the Gulf between 1987 and 1988 during the Iran/Iraq war.
Don't know why anyone who's ex would want to bloat like this, earning just one GSM is more than many would get from what was probably a short service career. Very very sad.

I was surprised that it seems that multiple jubilee medals can be worn together, you'd think a rule would be to wear the oldest or most recent.

He should know that having been in the armed forces.
He’s been referred to as a Falklands veteran on various local/policing news websites since 2018 - multiple examples easily found via a google search!
More importantly, He can only have been referred to as a Falkland’s veteran if someone had told them so. That wouldn’t have come from anyone else other than himself surely….
Or should one want to defend him, he has allowed the myth that he served in the Falkland’s to be continually referred to multiple times in the past 5 years.
