Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has

Was in town today so popped into the AD for a little amusement, 5-6 years wait for an Air King - one of their most popular pieces apparently… Presume ’my face didn’t fit’. As they’re not going for too much over list I’ll probably end up going grey. Doesn’t feel right having to traipse round all the local AD’s hoping one of them will take pity on me and ‘allow’ me to buy one.
Commiserations on your face not fitting. The Airking is actually a decent looking watch. Infinitely less common or tacky than a GMT or Submariner.Nothing tacky about them at all imho.

Collected an Airking today, exactly 4 weeks since I noted interest in that model. No previous buying history.
You might want to delete your post lol. There's some bloke on here who has a breakdown every few months because no one will even put his name down for an Air King

It seems inappropriate to mock his feelings 'because internet'.

Not sure the chap's responses can be defined as a 'breakdown'; rather, they appear to acknowledge the emotional aspect of making a large/expensive purchase (which is exactly what 'brand names' seek to invoke and rely on when overcharging for items that obviously cost far less to make than they are sold for) and the frustrations felt when receiving treatment that is arguably pointless gatekeeping.

Can't argue with that. Nicely put.It seems inappropriate to mock his feelings 'because internet'.
Watchfinder have a 2020 rootbeer with box and papers up for £15500 currently. That is showing as 'new price', which almost certainly means a reduction.
Yes it is still over list, but by less than £2k which is way down on the peak. To my mind, it looks a lot better value than the BLNR ones they have, many of which are not far off £14k.

It appears to be Rolex stealing the idea from an individual modder, who AIUI created what got called 'the shark' by swapping the white gold/blue model's bezel onto a black No Date Sub:

I am certain he got absolutely ripped a new one by some of the Rolex fanbois on the forums for doing that - with some people claiming 'it's not a Rolex now'

I think we are now comfortably within the zone where the reward for flipping many of the sports watches is no longer worth it. You may lose money as the dealer margin is so thin. Knowing how Watchfinder work on margins I would think they paid under RRP to get the Rootbeer into stock in the first place so no benefit to flippers to buy a Rootbeer nowI don’t know at what point it all gets counter productive for Rolex (well, the ADs mainly).
I’d like a non-date submariner and was near a big AD the other day so thought I’d pop in and get on the list - then I remembered the stupid dance you need to do to be allowed to go on the list, though sod it and had lunch instead - I’ll get one at list eventually anyway in this climate (or close enough not to worry).
