Petrol prices- when does the madness end?

Same price up here in Aberdeenshire as I filled the 535i with Tesco 99 last night at 143.9.

Petrol prices do seem to vary hugely based on location. I put some Tesco Momentum 99 in my car last Saturday in Cirencester and it cost £1.539 a litre, then filled up near home with the same fuel for £1.489 a litre.

Assuming a 55litre tank that's only £2.75 per fill-up.

You can save more than that by how heavy your right foot is.

Quite surprised it’s a few pence cheaper down here than in Notts.

Diesel has been £1.35.9 here for a week or so, Ellesmere Shropshire, before that it was £1.37.9 for the last month or so. I can't understand why it is always cheaper here. Drive a few miles and its 6p a litre more expensive.

Yeah I can see it coming. The 5p fuel duty cut has just been used as a reason for the petrol companies to add 5p back on. We the consumers haven’t seen any of it.

I expect the labour government to add the 5p back on and perhaps another 5p on top. That means either we pay a st load more or the petrol companies take less profit per litre.

Saw £1.29 with Shell on the A12 on Thursday. Had to double take as they normally add a convenience tax for having the temerity to run low on fuel on a busy A road.

Cheapest I've seen is 1.39.9 but Asda and Morrison seem to be 1.41.9

I don't do that many miles any more so it will affect me less. In fact, my MX5 RF averages high 40s and the two Pandas must do that too.

Of course, it won't achieve what Labour really want, which is to reduce use of vehicles.

I said in an earlier post that the normal 10p fuel differential between petrol and diesel had narrowed to 3p. Now I've seen a forecourt with matching prices for petrol and diesel fuel - 169.9p for either at Clackett Lane Services. That's a full 35p per litre more.

So if your car has a 65 litre fuel tank and is on fumes the cost would be:
137.9 diesel at supermarket £89.63
169.9 diesel at motorway £110.43
