Back with military Walt’s for a.second.

This is gold. If you go to the comments, one of the people commenting is Rusty Firmin ( actual SAS trooper on Nimrod ).

https://thewaltermittyhuntersclubhq.co.uk/neil-kip...

This is double gold standard, the Walt is actually claiming, first to be Rusty, and then to have had him as an instructor. That didn’t go down well either.

In the modern age though, I'm not entirely certain they're relevant. A hobby network might be a better description, rather than a 'professional emergency services communication network'.
A few of their number are over-keen, but that could be said about many organisations.

I attended the flooding in Lancaster in 2015 - not as Raynet, mind. The primary electricity substation had flooded. 55,000 properties off supply. The town centre was completely dark, save for moonlight. Mobile phone coverage mostly dead - most masts don't have backup. Airwave (emergency services radio network) - very poor to no coverage for the same reason. Most bridges across the Lune were shut, I think only the M6 bridge remained open. Telephone exchanges & street boxes were flooded so for the night and days after - no modern comms. It affected everything - calling 999, cashless transactions, internet.

Not much has changed in 10 years. There may be a bit more resilience in EE's mobile network nowadays due to requirements for ESN.

Most of us are completely reliant on good electricity supply for day-to-day lives. Even in the modern age, something as simple as point-to-point battery-operated radio can still be invaluable.

Introducing you to "Lancashire Technical Search and Rescue"

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=6157453019... - Facebook page of the same name
https://www.facebook.com/liam.addison.100 - apparent co-founder's profile Liam Addison
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1000054910... - apparent co-founder's profile Ashley McGiffin
www.lancashiretsar.org - website (currently non-responsive), registered 18th March

The latest local wazzocks/wannabe heros. It seems to entirely consist of two lads who have setup on their own. I regret that some truly hillarious photos of Liam Addison posing in a drysuit have been removed from Facebook before I managed to capture them. They have some connection with the remaining dregs of North West Regional Logistical Response, who have been laughed at discussed on this thread previously.

Apparently what you need to form a search & rescue organisation is
1) a high-viz jacket
2) a Facebook presence

Expect clapped-out vehicles equipped with blue flashing lights and dud livery within months.

They have co-ordinated some public searching for a missing chap in Wigan, which although public spirited, is a little scary.

As someone with some training in leading climbing / caving / rope access bits and pieces, my teeth are itching on that one.

I've had training in rifle shooting and guitar playing but I'm no good at either.
Having had "training" doesn't make you an expert, it just means you've been trained a bit. We have no idea how successful you were or even if you completed the training.

I've only had very limited training in high level WAH access, and even I know that's not how you wear and connect a harness unless you want to hang yourself rofl

Err, yeah. But are you time-served? That’s surely the definitive proof that you’re a suitable candidate to lead a rescue mission.

I have some limited experience. Enough to get by. Guessing you mean that the black krab should have been directly clipped to the navel D-ring on the full-body harness. The silver/orange krab is meant for linking between the two halves of the harness... and the way he's rigged it, there's a potential for three-way loading?

Just spotted: Liam's Facebook profile page says he's a BTP officer.

I have no idea if this is true or not; but I do know that every single copper I know has either
a) a FB profile under a pseudonym
b) no face picture - not a public one, at least
c) no mention that they are a copper in their "about"
d) all of the above
