Accident, Road Rage and now the Police

Hi all.

I was involved in an incident on Friday and I could do with some advice please.

I (Green Line) was traveling home from work on Friday. With the intention of turning left into my road. (dotted Green Line) The other vehicle (Red Line) cut up the bus lane to avoid the width restrictions. I was indicating left and intended to continue onto the roundabout to turn left, However, the other car which was about to undercut me did not stop at the give way line and made contact with mine before the roundabout.





We then pulled onto the side road to discuss things.

He said he had no option but to admit he was at fault because he had used the bus lane to avoid scratching his alloy wheels on the width restriction. He agreed at first that and it was my right of way, but wanted to leave it there because there was minimal damage to his car. When I showed him damage to mine and said it was going to be an insurance claim, he became irate. As he felt I was being selfish and thought that it was my fault because I had slowed for the roundabout.

My Insurance company are all over it, as he refused to give me his name, although I got vehicle details, and advised me to contact the police, as he used extremely threatening behaviour, and threatened to kick me to the ground and kill me for making him out to be at fault. I have details of witnesses who saw it, and these have been given to cops and Insurance.

Skip to today, The Police came over and took a statement, and have been to see the owner of the vehicle, It now turns out that he is adamant he was not being aggressive, and whilst he agrees to the damage, and would offer me money for it. He denied being abusive, so the police want to take statements from my witnesses (who only agreed to be insurance witnesses at the time) The WPC advised just now that in the video he took on his phone of the damage, he can be heard ranting and calling me a c%%t. So the Police are looking to take it forward.

Where do I go from here?

I just want my car fixed and an easy life. But this appears to be spiralling beyond what was just a simple road accident because the person who hit my car, is a lying, aggressive a$$hole.

That line looks yellow to me, not green. If you're fibbing about the colour of a line how can you be trusted on anything else? I say it was all your fault!



Get the money out of him, don't bother pressing charges about him being a prick, unless he got physical.

If you've given a statement then your involvement with the police is pretty much done unless you were needed as a witness at a trial in the future.

Pursue the claim through your insurers as originally planned and let them argue with his insurer over liability etc.

In the course of the arguement to try and get details off him, He threatened to kill me, and said if there wasn't people here, or he didn't have a child to look after, he would have kicked me to the kerb and kicked my F_ing teet in.

My experience tells me the ones that threaten everything when they have every opportunity to actually carry out their threats are seldom the ones to be worried about.

He can be heard giving you abuse on the evidence he gave to the police. It sounds like an open and shut case to me.

Sadly, you'd be wrong then. Friend of mine was in court last month as the victim of road rage. He had his nose broken by a punch through his open drivers window. The ranting idiot who was driving behind him (and who had a cob on as said friend was driving at 30mph, not faster, through the very narrow roads of his village) got out, ranted and raved, and then started punching.

Sometimes the ones who gob off are very happy to see through their actions.

Oh, and he got 5 months inside for it. Deserved I think.

So he was ranting and raving and went through with the threats?

Unlike the OP's encounter where the guy threatened everything and did nothing.

My point exactly, the op shouldnt be unduly worried about a few threats at the roadside, why didn't the guy just deck him there and then, he had the chance?

I agree, all mouth and no trousers, if he was a real nutter he would have just started without all the hot air.

I think he must have felt safe throwing all that mouth at you as he was bigger, and it's not nice for you to be on the receiving end of that kind of abuse.
