Genuine query...

Over the last few weeks i have noticed that these wierd 'upside down L shaped' posts have been going up onthe A428 between northampton and bedford - rather like (in style) to the ones that overhead tram lines use as they reach over to the centre of the road.

Well yesterday driving down that road they have cameras on top. They are yellow, with two smaller boxes either side and look identical (in my eyes) to the specs cameras that were/are in the thelwall viaduct roadworks on the M6. There is one per side of the road, either side.

This road is used a lot as a hoon road particularly by bikes as it has many good bits about it (except volume of traffic! )

Are these SPECS? This is the first time i have seen them on a normal A road. I cannot see what else they can be. Even the motorways don't have accident/traffic viewing cameras at this regular interval....

No mention of them is given of them being SPECS on any of the signage at the side of the road.

Low bridges etc

Can't find the thread, but they've been discussed on here and agreed to be SPECS

Forward or rear facing? They won't help with the bikes if they are forward facing

YEP!!! Thats the puppies, thats how i was trying to describe the posts as well. Exactly what they look like. One per side of the road at each interval, each forward facing.

SPECS are bang out of order IMO. That is just about as low as you can get FFS.

I had to listen to a bloody town planner on the train the other day "we have to make these decisions for people, because they simply aren't clever enough to make them for themselves" - Fck it took all my restraint not to get up and belt the bugger into next week!

Sad time indeed.

Is everyone sure these are specs cameras?? i was under the impression that they weren't being installed yet (because they are bang out of order!). now, i do a shed load of miles on motorways & a roads. and i'm not particularly good at sticking to the limits (my car just can't do only 60 or 70, it insists on going mental). and i've also seen loads & loads of suspicious looking cameras. but surely i'd have been banned long ago if these specs were as existent & prevalent as is suggested??
also, if they do exist, shouldn't they be renamed C * N T S

Whereabouts on the A428 are these new cameras, as I tend to use the bit between Brafield and the Warrington r/bout as part of my Sunday morning blat route.

Interesting question.....

Personally, I think that SPECS is working quite happily, and "catching" motorists by the dozen.

Maybe there is a button somewhere that is yet to be pressed by the authorities, and when it is, that's when the NIPs will start to be sent out.....

Near that stately home place, before you get to Brafield on the Green going towards Northampton. TBH you can't miss 'em - it's unlikely you've gone through them and not seen them

Perhaps thats it. Just all seems a bit mysterious - I think that since I've been reading Pistonheads, there have been countless alleged SPECs spotteds (M4 for example) but noone seems to know for certain - with evidence - that 'x' cameras are definitely SPECs & up and running & doing people.
