A bloke at the pub last night was drinking heavily, also had a few drugs on him... subsquently i decided to let down all four of his car's tires in order to prevent him driving (also to piss him off)
He now has reported me to the police... what are the ramifications of this? letting down a car's tires...
Any advice would be good.

I'd be more worried about what his mates will do in revenge, never mind the Police.
He is in the same group of ''mates'' as i am in however he is the only one that does drugs so i have no worries about his 'mates' infact as i recall alot of people chuckled while he stood by his car trying to fathom how to fill his tires with air. Possible criminal damage - CPS might not want to run with it.
Possible theft (of air) - CPS might not want to run with it.
Possible that the police/CPS will weigh your offence against your (good) intentions and NFA it - best outcome.
Possible (to probable) that you'll be offered the option of a police caution.
Streaky

I would suggest you refuse a caution if offered. They have far greater ramifications than you are often lead to believe.
However the main reason I would refuse it is you had nothing but good intentions clearly. You were attempting to prevent a crime being committed using the minimum force possible, you didn't cause any physical harm to the guy (indeed didn't touch him) and caused no damage to his car. Had you slashed his tyres then yes I'd be a little concerned but as long as you just pressed the valves in I would not be worried.
No theft has occurred as I can see it. While you have deprived the owner of his air in the tyres nothing would have stopped him gathering the air back up and putting it back in.
I would imagine the CPS would throw this out even if a Policeman were stupid enough to follow it through having had the situation explained fully. If by some freak of judgement it ended up in court lets be honest it would be thrown out.

...especially as you would have witnesses (regardless of the absence of any other evidence) as to the circumstances and condition of the person concerned!...unless you can't count on any of these 'friends' backing you up?
No brainer! - unless all is not as portrayed here?

Do you now think that it was a slightly dumb, holier-than-thou thing to do? Or would you do it again?
Not sure of the OP, however, this a balance of probabilities and the choice is depending on my resonable judgement of the guys driving capabilities in his current condition... and if I knew him.Choice?
1. Call the Cops and warn them - likely to end up with a very upset acquaintance, and his driving future blemished.
2. Do nothing - and have a regret for the rest of my life if it turns out badly.
3. Do something to temporarily disable the possibility of his driving until the morning, that did not consitute damage to him, or his vehicle, even knowing that this might put me at a slight risk - Justifiable, I would conclude!
I know which one I would choose! - The latter! ...OK, he might be p!!sses at me for a couple of days, but then if he is half-way reasonable, I would have thought he would come and thank me and have a good laugh about it! - Unless he is a total NUTTER, in which case do No 1!

I simply pressed the valves releasing the air... the CCTV will show this... there is nothing else to this situation i just prevented him from driving (he didn't know who had did it either at the time) Choice?

There's nothing for me to worry about then i guess, i'll explain my actions and i will refuse a caution - anybody with half a brain will see my side of the story although i may have done wrong in the eyes of the law by letting air out of tires.
oh and to put it politely he is a pothead who can't handle his drink at all and he was attempting to combine both being stoned, high, drunk at 1am in the morning due to being chucked out by the pub for being in possession of drugs when he claimed he wasn't but was upon being searched.

I feel you've done the right thing and can have a clear consience, even if your police record might not be so clear ;-)

cheers fella. thank you PH for assurance. Iv been told he's reported me so we will see.
Then you can also add 'knob' to light weight pot head.
he hasn't worked this through has he?
Police interview him, they interview you, they return to his for a little look around the cupboards.
You are, at worst, up for criminal damage but i doubt anyone would run with it and there is no way in hell i would accept a caution for it.
