I keep an eye on the Honest John "Backroom" Forum, supposedly for motorists.

A young lady by the name of "NoWheels", though supposedly only temporarily a non-driver, seems to post a lot of not very motorist supportive stuff.

Fair enough, each to their own.

But she recently posted a link to a dft page to "prove":

>> Call-out headline in The Independent's motoring supplement today: "Cameras have reduced
>> deaths and near-fatal accidents by 35 per cent". No source for
>> this number is quoted in the article. Fact or irresponsible journalism?

Fact: UCL study for the DfT, see www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/page/dft_rdsafety_024065.hcsp

(From: www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=21659)

If anyone had bothered to click on the link they would have found "proof" that the study never mentioned fatal figures, or near fatal accidents, though it did mention red light cameras, not just speed cameras. The 35% is of course, an average, with some showing rises. And a bit of background rooting around would have found that the "study" followed large upward blips in the figures.

In another thread she provides a link to "prove":

>> there is one important difference... they pay that much tax and
>> it's all upfront and in your face.

www.cfit.gov.uk/research/scot0122/02.htm includes a table comparing overall motor taxation across Europe: UK was roughly in the middle in year 2000

(From: www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=22617)

Further down the same page we jump to a quartile position for a different lifespan, a few pages on we are second for tax on use, and if you do a bit of hunting around and find the original (government published) report you find we come top if they strip out purchase tax (which is "voluntary" in some countries - it's rebated for safety and environmental features).

Did any of the "Backroom" motorists even click on the links?

Doesn't look like it!

Oh, and guess what she does:

"I do know quite a lot about media management" !

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I see that someone from the Backroom is keeping an eye on my site, or perhaps this one:

Oh shut up for phucks sake you pompous old tw4t.

No one is interested in your comments.

You got banned from the Honest John website, so you copy/paste articles that interest YOU (no one else - just YOU) and then reply to them here.

How phucking pathetic. Your head is stuck so far up your own ar5e, you are able lick your own tonsils.

Get a life, you Nottingham tosser. Better still, do us all a favour and take your life by getting run over by a tram.

So, the anwer to my question seems to be a resounding:

YES !

- Nightmare!!!!!

Let me see if I have got this right:

I highlight somebody propagating totally inaccurate anti-motorist spin, someone adding a further twist to already spun sCamera "statisitics", on a "motoring" forum, to which none of the motorists appear to have a robust response.

Is it any wonder we are supposed have more sCameras than the rest of the world put together and pay a seventh of all taxes on top of our ordinary taxes.

When you go to bed do you snuggle down under a horse blanket?

Or do you lie down and pull a doormat over yourself with the words "Welcome Gordon" across it?

I've been going on about all this this anti-car crap for over three decades.

Why did I bother?
