SORN...insured?

I've got a car which i have just tried to SORN on the interweb but it said i couldn't had to go to a PO or DVLA office.

Just a quick one, to SORN does the car need to be insured??

No

Not sorn'd = needs insurance
sorn'd = no need for insurance (as vehicle is supposed to be off road)

As i thought...

I only got the car middle of last month and got the logbook last week but the DVLA vehicle check shows the date of liablity 01/07 (i.e. it wasn't taxed in Juy which is correct)

Now due to circumstances im not keeping it so want to SORN it before i sell it, dont want to have to insure it to tax it if im selling it.

So you got it in mid-July, untaxed? Had the previous owner just let the tax expire and not SORNed it?

I suspect the reason you can't SORN it online is because the DVLA computer is throwing a fit about it being untaxed AND unSORNed for July, and wants to issue a fine or two.

Seems i have to fill in a V890 from what i can gather....

May just go to the DVLA office tomorrow.

Yup but if it is medium-long term you can do off-road insurance on Fire & theft for £20-£30

Not worth faffing about with it on my Riley, it's only £81 fully comp, agreed value etc.

It automatically unsorns at th instant you buy a car. From that point I guess you should have taxed or SORNed rather than waiting for the new log book

It's a mystery why you cant do it online - whats it saying exactly?
otherwise go to the PO and SORN it?
