£30K is a lot of money to have riding on just one letter.....any more details? Did you offer to buy part of the farm? I think the term "without prejudice " has some specific meaning and usage so just typing it on the letter doesn't necessarily mean it can't be used in court. To be valid I think the letter has to contain some offer of a settlement or at least to lead in that direction. When I have received such letters it has usually been from insurance companies' solicitors making offers to settle a claim against them which I have taken to mean that their offer of settlement was not to be confused with an acceptance of liability should I wish to pursue the matter further.... this legal stuff is very confusing but I expect as expert will be along to put me right any time now.
