What Would Happen If We Got Rid Of All Speed Related Laws?
Discussion
All hell would break loose.

Muppets who play playstation causing all sorts of carnage.
More muppets using innapropriate speed in bad conditions causing carnage.
PHers driving mostly the same round the twisties. Sadly, 1 or 2 will cause carnage.
Overall - more accidents, and possibly even longer journey times. Derestricted motorways is 1 thing, but sadly the average driver needs someone else to think for them...

I really believe poor driving not speeding kills. Therefore if I was in charge of the roads:
I would have no speed limits on motorways between 11pm and 6am if it was up to me. Doing 70mph up an empty 3 or 4 lane motorway is just silly.
I would also get rid of lane dicepline, it doesnt work, its not enforced/ or enforce it. One or the other but something needs doing.
Of course the problems are that in the UK are that there are more bad drivers than good ones. people who dont drive to suit conditions and some wont expect to be undertaken, or cant judge speed and distance. I would issue these people a bus pass and ban them.
The standard of driving from some asians in there Datsuns as I pass near junction 21 on the M1 is some of the worst. Completely clueless.
However I would come down harder on drunk/ drug driving, dangerous driving, speeding in built up areas/ near schools etc.

I suspect you've never driven in America... I was on a 6 lane 55 limit motorway, all 6 lanes going at 48 but free flowing. With no lane dicepline, that'll what will happen.
What we want is the dutch system - MLM = 3 points. Rigerously enforced, and far better average speeds as a result. We don't need their speed cameras tho!

This is very interesting, thankyou. I posted this as I have been driving more recently, and have found myself in two scenarios. There are times when I an driving through a village with parked cars doing 15mph with a car close to my back bumper ("should I be going faster") and other times doing, er, 70 on the motorway. In both cases I am being influenced by an artificial limit that others seem to regard as a target or instruction. I am more comfortable using my own judgement based on the vehicle I am driving.
