I've heard, via a friend from a traffic officer that the only people who can ask to see an MoT certificate are the Police and VOSA.

Does anyone know anything about this, or if true what Act enforces it?

This isn't in relation to a car sale.

Thanks.

Post office counter staff, in order to issue RFL?

(I know that it is all computerised now, but what if system was down?)

Who else would want to see it, and why ?

Bit of a cryptic post, 300...
erm, lots of people for many different reasons. Motor clubs when entering a competition and part of scrutineering. Companies that pay out fuel expenses, etc.

Surely, even if the statement is true - it's that you're legally required to show it to VOSA or a Police officer, wheras you cannot be compelled to show it to anyone else?

These other parties would still be well within their rights to require you to show it to prove your car was roadworthy for their purposes.

Very possibly, that's why I was asking, as the info I had been given was quite explicit. I was more curious than anything.

May I see your MoT certificate please?

I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for an MoT certificate if it's relevant to what's going on - eg. joining a car pool or going on a track.

It would be unreasonable if to join a golf club, you had to show them an MoT certificate. If they didn't let you join a golf club because your car wasn't MoT-ed, that would be a bit unreasonable.

Their system is NOT computerised.

If buying VED in the PO you will need to produce the MOT cert., whether they ask or not it states it on the reminder notice!

You can refuse, but you won't get a tax disc.

If you opt out of the company car scheme and take cash for car instead you will not receive any payment until you provide HR with an MOT cert an INs cert and tax disc - note all of these are annual requirements if you don't provide the info they stop the payments as that's a requirement of cash for car.

Mine also requires annual proof of regular servicing again don't show it don't get it. And if you don't like it then you can take the co csr instead.

It's all to do with them ensuring all their employees are 100% legal and if your not your in a fords misconduct scenario

You're right, legally you wouldn't have to show them. Then, you have failed to comply with their requirements and they won't let you enter the competition or pay expenses. Pretty simple.

By law you don't have to prove your age to a bouncer. And by law they don't have to let you into a bar/club/pub.

I'd have no issues showing anyone my MOT - given a valid reason not just showing it for fun.

In fact I'd be for an MOT style disc to display on your car. You shouldn't have anything to hide and as a good citizen I'd be highlighting those without or with out of date MOTs to the police. For the relevant fines or the csr to be crushed.

How about a blank spot on the tax disc where a little peel-off sticker from the MOT certificate could be stuck on?
there would need to be a few of these little stickers on the MOT cert and each would have a mark on which related to that vehicle

Problem with that is the annual mot date may not be aligned with the tax disc year and some people buy 6months worth of tax therefore the suggestion of anything linked to VED wouldn't work. A seperate disc would clear that issue.

A seperate disc would block more of the view which is why I suggested using stickers on the current tax disc
