Hi all,

Just got up to go to college and gone to the carpark and ive been clamped, when we came back lastnight my mate had left the window down and the permit has blown onto the seat. Ive bked my mate but ive tried to ring the number left for me but theres no answer. The permit was on view but on the seat. What options do I have??

Annoyed is not the word!!

Cheers

I would politely contact them explaining there must have been some mistake, you have a permit that your quite prepared to produce to them, risk is they photographed the dash, could have been on display on the side windows tho' ?

Call out the happy clamper and if he/she/it hasn't got an S.I.A immobilisation licence call the Police.

Call the clamper and say you have a permit, say they were mistaken if they didn't see it, as it was on view. If they refuse to budge call out a locksmith as they will be cheaper and won't damage the lock.

Just got to college, eventually got hold of the clamper after a few calls to the police. Turns out he didn't have a SIA licence and his clamping notice did not show a company name which apparently is illegal?? Anyhow, police been notified and clamp was released free of charge.

Thanks for the advice guys!!!!

Hang on!!! a) the police were helpful and b) a clamper took a clamp off without threatening to murder your family or nick your car in the night?

He does live in a neighbourhood where you can leave you window open overnight and still have a car in the morning so maybe the Police won't say "it's a civil case, nothing we (are going to) can do about it" and the happy clamper is wise enough not to make a threat and just do it instead. wink

Make sure you report it to the SIA, they take unlicenced clampers to court.

Go to their website, there's an online section to report them.

^^This^^

Also, if the clamping took place on campus, the college has some questions to answer as to why it permitted an unlicensed operator to act on its behalf.

It could have been liable if the clamper had not been sensible enough to release the car. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/Clamped-d...

Funnily enough, the clamping happened in central Manchester in the car park under Manchester student village. Im extremely lucky to have a car there. My mate is now buying me beer for the week!!! Im happy its all over anyhow as I was getting a little stressed this morning!! As far as I know the police are going to take further action against him so I don't thinks there is a need to report it.

I only worked out about him not having a number when I finally got hold of him and he told me i was in the wrong so I asked him for his SIA number and he put the phone down on me, when I rang him back and asked him again he just said the line was dodgy and he'd be down soon. He turned up in an old Ford Fiesta which seemed a little dodgy to me!!

Thanks for your help guys, it seems you've saved me £125!!

There is a need to report it to the SIA smile . Don't assume the police will just blindly follow this through - you did better than 99.5% of the clamped population in getting them to even show an interest, so there's every chance a senior police drone will call a halt to it - he won't then see any sanctions for what, after all, is breaking criminal law.

So make sure you report it to the SIA smile .
