On Southern TV this AM was a piece on a report on the most dangerous roads for motorcyclists.

A list (for the S TV region) contained the A331. Now I know this road pretty well, and AFIK the majority of accidents involving motorcycles have occured at the roundabout at the A31 end.

There is a reason for this, and it's nothing to do with road design.

The silly bu99ers (ie. not all motorcyclists) go haring round and round the roundabout leaning the bike as far over as possible so as to produce sparks from the pedals.

Then they lean too far ...

Hmm, I spy an argument here along the lines of 'roads themselves are not dangerous', pretty similar to the 'guns are not dangerous, it's the users' idea. Is it not more to do, as you state, with the 'inappropriate' use of them.

Actually, there's fun to be had there, like sliding the back out on a sports car....

Reminds you a bit about the Isle of Man and it's TT course.

They called it Blood Island for a while, which was totally unfair.

The roads are generally as dangerous as you want them to be. Yes there are of course exceptions to this but everyone should adapt their style of riding/driving to the conditions at the time.

The road near The Cat & Fiddle near Macclesfield is only dangerous if you drive/ride it without adpating your style accordingly.

As the sign says 'Ride like a knob and you'll die'

Hmm, the last time I saw a bike accident it was on the roundabout connecting the A331 with the A31. It looked like a numpty had pulled out in front of a bike there. She looked pretty distraught and the biker looked like his pride and joy was broken. I felt sorry for the lot of them.

Streaky said - "to produce sparks from the pedals".

Lol. They should be able to get their knee down in one smooth motion. No need to lap endlessly round it.
