What is a camera site?
Discussion
I was reading an article in The Indy last night (which incidentally promted me to throw the paper in rage) in which the usual soundbites were being spouted by the usual suspects about Scameras. Through blind fury I think I read Begg quoted as saying that those who oppose 'safety'
cameras have 'blood on their hands'. There was a phrase used that got me thinking - what exactly is a 'safety camera site' Someone had made the statement that speed related accidents has been cut dramatically at 'safety camera sites'
Is this simply the 25 or so metres immediately following the camera? If so, how can such dramatic cuts have been made? Lets say there are 500 fixed cameras in the UK, each with an influence area of 100 metres (75 metres beforehand and 25 after). A couple of quick sums therefore puts the total mileage of camera influence at 312.5 miles countrywide. Compared with the mileage of roads in the UK, this is a tiny figure. Are we really supposed to believe that robocops covering such a small percentage of the UK road network can have such a huge impact on the number of people KSI on our roads? Something smells a bit fishy
Have I got this all mixed up as I am finding this line of reasoning increasingly hard to believe?

Herts SCP claim their cameras are only sited on "a stretch of road" with the requisite KSI. I've repeatedly asked them to define "a stretch of road" but have yet to get a response, let alone an answer. I suspect it will be whatever they can get away with claiming. "Oh, we put a camera up and accidents reduced a mile away, so the camera works!"
The "First" casualty is always the TRUTH!!!!
