Are BiB allowed to strike....
Discussion
Just wondering.
The fire brigade and various other unions seem to strike roughly every 2.6 seconds for various reasons but I never hear of the Police going on strike.
Are you not allowed to do this? and if not what means can you use to get "some attention" to issues like crap equipment etc etc?

No, but we can work to rule and if that ever happened, god knows what mess the place would be in after a few hours

We have a marvelous institution called 'The Police Federation'. We can report issues to them but any working conditions which would have seen Health/Fire/teachers building large pyres to advertise their plight are quietly accepted after inital bluster by the federation.
They have seen quite a few different reports changing working conditions and pay over the last 20 years and failed to stand up to the Govt and official side which now sees 3 different pay structures throughout the Police. They have agreed to almost all allowances being removed but they do provide you with legal representaion if you are in the sh1t (and they consider that you have not committed a criminal offence which stands a good chance of proving)
Other than that, if there is a health and safety issue, you bring this to the attention of your supervisors who then have long and drawn out meetings with many sharp intakes of breath (mainly about the costs of things to rectify it) and then various comittees take on the job of testing new gear to see that it is suitable. That means that we generally get Fleeces issued in Mid July because of a need in the previous November 1 year before
They say if you can't take a joke

Definately can't strike. But as said, there are lots of things we can do to put various spanners in the works. As for the Police Federation. I'm not in it. Totally toothless tiger. Just a talking shop, funded by rank and file Officers (at circa £15 a month) which achieves sod all.
If you do get a complaint, and I've had my fair share, they can give you some support. But frankly, if you're deep enough in the sh1t to get arrested you're entitled to free legal advice anyway. If it's a discipline matter they're not interested.
