Police Officer Height!

Pretty certain they have removed the height restriction now. Could never see the problem with vertically challenged people myself, you only need to come across a 5'6" marine/para/SF (normally scotish)guy to know they don't get much tougher 
.
As already alluded too, I doubt that Mungo would have got in under the old height rules

I read that story in papers. One legged cop?
As for height - they do seem to be getting weedier - some of them look like little boys dressed up as cops. Wonder whether this is part of the growing disrespect - you used to see sturdy 6' plus athletic build, rippling with muscles .... mmmmmmm!

Now... at 5'10 - without me girly high heels - I tower over some of them . And as for muscles and overall strength - reckon even a girly like me could floor 'em!

Height restrictions are abolished. This is because they are racist. They indirectly discriminate against certain ethnic groups. For example, how may 6'0" tall Asian or Chinese men do you see? Very few. As a race, Asians are shorter than either White Europeans or African Carribeans. Thus, to impose a height restriction of say 5'10" makes it less likely they will meet the criteria.
The City of London Police (different from the Met, in case you didn't know - force of circa 1000 Officers, funded by the Corporation of London, patrol literally the square mile) - was I believe the last force in the UK to abolish it's height restriction for men of 6'0".
I don't necessarily buy this "big is best" theory with Police Officers. An Officers best weapon is communication skills. Although that said, we've just had a probationer join my station who is 6'9" and 20 stone. When he walks in to a pub fight the fighting just stops! Seriously - Police Forces are big organisations - there is room for all shapes and sizes. Just don't get me on the the fitness test, which is now a joke.

i remember reading a (possibly erroneous) report about the link betwen the US police forces fitness test being abolished and the increase in perps shot in the back! Im too fat to run after em,...so I'll shoot em instead! marvellous. I hope it's true anyway
