I passed my test a fortnight ago and yesterday when I was coming home from work i noticed I was slightly over the speed limited so instead of braking i just eased right off the accelerator (there was someone right up my a**e) as I came round the corner there was a stack of traffic so I quickly put my foot on the break I noticed quite a way up the road there was a mobile safety camera - not sure of distance but I could only just see it) It was a 60 road and I only went over the limit once and that was to about 65 at the most. Can this type of camera only catch you if they see you (as I was round the corner when I edged over) and at what distance do they catch you at.
If I get 6points in the next 2 years I'll lose my licence and have to take it again. Which will cost a small fortune.
Has anyone got any details of these cameras or any help.
I think speed cameras are a good idea to catch people who willingly go over the speed limited by a considerable amount but to catch an ordinary person who accidently goes over for a few seconds is unfair and seems to me only bring revenue in for the police etc. It is hard to look at your speed guage every ten minutes to check your not going over and in that time a child could have run out or anything. So you have the choice of going 10 mile an hour under the speed limit and cause a load of accidents when you annoy people behing you and they try to over take you in daft spots or getting nicked for going slightly over.
All seems unfair to me.

Welcome to the world of motoring Martha.
Get yourself tooled up, Road Angel and a laser jammer, and keep your eyes open, dont worry about watching your speedo (i've never understood that argument, if you're too busy watching your speedo, no wonder you dont see the cameras) look at the road instead.

Hope I'll be fine when I turned the corner onto the straight with the camera on I slammed my breaks on cos there was a long line of traffic doing less than forty.
Will be gutted if I get caught I always stick to the speed limits.
In theory could I get 6 points by getting caught twice doing 31 on and 30 road and then have to take my licence again?
Maybe they should focus on older drivers who don't know any of the highway code constantly get in the wrong lanes and go 30mph on a 60mph road? All seems unfair.

If you can't see the road in front of you is clear to safely stop, then you're probably going too fast, whatever the speed limit is.
With reference to the question you asked in your original post, you should be OK, I hope.
Does anyone else get the impression Martha may be a troll? Seems to share many of the opinions of us more experienced (therefore cynical?!) petrolheads, yet claims to be a new driver?
Regardless - Martha, you should be fine. On a 60limit road, threshold is usually 71mph. Speedos arent all that accurate anyway.
I wouldnt worry.

I think the real question to answer is "can thsee camers see you round a bend" - nope, is the answer. They can only get you on line of sight....bear in mind though, that just cos you couldnt see them, doesnt necessariyl mean they couldnt see you,...but it's likely
Anyway - 65 isn't trying hard enough to count as really breaking the speed limit!

No I'm not a troll!
so they can't catch you on a corner if they can't see your plate?
Can't remember if I braked before the corner I usually do. Prob me just worrying. Taught me a lesson though I will always go 5mph under the limit just in case. I know it'll prob pee other uses off
