Is there a standard fine for 55 in a 40?
What can one expect to get?

I guess its probably different depending on how it was measured. In this instance lets say its a mobile laser.

Really? I thought it would have been a lot more than that. Perhaps a court appearance or something.

In a 40

Fixed Penalty between 46 and 65 as K states

Over 65 Their Worships, using their local knowledge, will impose higher to a Max of 1,000 notes and between 3 -6 points. They also have the discretion to impose a ban.

I got caught with Police speed gun doing 57 in a 40 in '99, then, it was 3 points and £40, although when I sent my license off to get the points put on, my license was stolen when posted back in my pidgeon hole post box! Police got it back though! lol
Have a clean license now, after 5 years of having to declare it on insurance renewal. It is odd how some insurance companies load a little extra because of an ancient SP40, and some don't!!!

Dwight, i thought it was 50% over the limit and you did court, but that would not work for 70 limits, where it's about 96.

What are the FPN/Process speed cutoffs?

ACPO Guidelines are-:

Speed + 10% + 2mph = V/W
Then this speed up to 25mph over = FPN(E)
Speed + 26mph = Process

Edited to say that this is for basic speed alone. Not counting any bad driving etc etc.

Thanks Tonyrec.
And thanks to all the other bib on here who posted on the "What to say when you get pulled" thread.

I was caught speeding yesterday coming into a 40 from an NSL straight going down a steep hill.

I was kind and friendly to the bib and he was back to me.
I said to him that I was already braking and slowing down and as soon as I saw him looked at my speedo and said "sheet!".
He said he noticed that I was already slowing but said he had to draw the line somewhere. Fair enough I reckon. We had a good chat too.

I took it on the chin and he was a decent bloke. Said I wouldnt have to go to court and gave me a FPN (3 points and £60). I got to have a go of the gun though, They are a bloody accurate aim. I dont see any way of escaping them.

I told him how Im vey good on the speed limits when coming from an NSL to a 30/40 and it was my own silly fault for not braking earlier.

Also told him that its bloody typical that I get caught in the Diesel Golf and not the TVR!
(In fact I reckon I would have been going slower through there in the Tiv as I probably pay even more attention to the speeds Im doing).

Anyway, I was speeding and got caught.
Learnt a lesson from it and will slow down a lot earlier in future.
Will also be buying an Origin B2 so that a nasty scamera doesnet add another three to my licence which was nice and clean

Thankyou friendly bib bloke

I shook his hand and said thanks after too, Dont know why but it seemed right!
He told me the person before me had kicked up a right fuss so I probably made things easy for him.
