Ok, so I was not paying attention, driving home after working one Sunday along a 30 limit DC, that is usually full of rush hour commuters doing ~40 mph. I rounded a slight bend and saw a police van with several officers, one of which was holding a speed gun. I dabbed the brakes but knew I was going over the limit. I thought nothing more of it since I presumed they'd pull me straight away.
I'd forgotten all about it until a letter arrived today............a speed warning saying they'd clocked me at 36 but were not going to prosecute but the letter should serve as warning not to do it again! I feel very fortunate and am grateful that this approach has been taken when by rights I should now have 3 points and be £60 worse off, keeping my unblemished license.
Has anyone else had one of these or is it worth me playing the lottery this week too?

Probably just means they realised after that their gun was not properly calibrated so wouldn't stand up in court I'd forgotten all about it until a letter arrived today............a speed warning saying they'd clocked me at 36 but were not going to prosecute but the letter should serve as warning not to do it again! I got stopped by one of these last year. Policeman and community speed watch person. I had a telling off from the policeman for doing 37 in a 30. Don't do it again and there will be a warning letter in the post. Got letter, took it as the warning it was intended and nothing else happened.

How many of you does it need, to tell those able to do something about it, that 30limit and DC might not be cozy bedfellows.dcb said:
Most countries in Europe require a speed gun to be tripod
mounted to be accepted in court as admissible evidence.
Only in the UK and perhaps Ireland are hand held speed guns good enough.
Never heard that one, can you link to this ?? I know France they don't as I saw Police standing on the side of the road with laser in hand a while back. mounted to be accepted in court as admissible evidence.

Where's the over zealous and annoying enforcement there? No where to be f
seen that's where! Yet they all carry on below the posted arbitrary limit in some false sense of safety because the scameraships can't help themselves and continue to push this anti-speed agenda, as profits are no doubt down at the moment.
I thought it was about ROAD SAFETY which shockingly entails more than just inappropriate speed (which is ironically a term of little relevance to the highwaymen)??
Akin to clamping and the thugs running that racket
