Training - a waste of time

From yesterday’s Times.

“Mr Gifford said: "Improving motorcyclists' skills merely means they kill themselves in a more skilled way."

So, there we have it – officially.  No point in getting trained if you’re a biker.  That’s the official line from Robert Gifford. Mr Gifford is - wait for it - the Chairman of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Transport Safety.

Assuming this quote wasn’t taken out of context, what views do people have of Mr Gifford's stance?

A pretty callous and lazy response which exposes quite clearly the Govt stance on transport policy.
If it costs money we ain't gonna do it especially if it threatens our cash cow camera cureall.

We either learn things through trial and error or by imparted wisdom.

Trial and error on a bike tends to be painful so training has to be a good thing.

This bloke is just a waste of air.

If its not been taken out of context then it shows him up to be nothing less than ill informed.
