THEY GOT IT WRONG

I posted a few weeks ago that I had recieved a £50 fine for going into a bus lane in north london, however they had said my car transporter was a VW, when it is in fact a Mercedes.......wondered if I had any redress as they had got the make wrong.......general comments were PAY, I wouldnt win on such a technicality.

I couldnt remember us been in London on the given date however we get countywide and visit london frequently.....however I requested a copy of the photo before I paid the fifty quid.

It arrived this morning and the pic is of a VW Golf Cabriolet Reg Number R729.....my truck is a Mercededs Sprinter Reg R279.

I had explained on the phone prior all the details of my truck and the fact it was a Merc not a VW.

I have today issued an invoice to Harringay Council for £50.for an hour and a half of my time sorting this out. They fine us for mistakes Im fineing them.

Excellent. Good luck with fining them.

I think a fine / out-of-pocket expenses is appropriate in any circumstance where someone's time has been wasted, for example, incorrect congestion charge, parking fine, speeding ticket.

Good result mate, but don't hold your breath for the money from Haringay though.

I would say unless they pay as per their rules, threaten them with legal action and up the 'fine'.

Your original post made no mention of the discrepancy in the VRM - just the make. This led, quite rightly to the advice to pay.

Had we all know of this discrepancy then our advice would have been totally different.

Again it is a good point to make in that do not accept everything at face value but check, check facts and you could be lucky.

DVD..............The fine that came through had the reg R279 on it, which is my vehicle..........its only when Ive seen the photo and seen that the vehicle in the bus lane is in fact R729 and not R279.

Maybe a mere £50 fine is not enough for such incompetance???

Surely they type in the Reg No and get a make out (therefore either false plate or mistyped Reg!)?

Or do they look at the photo, read the Reg No, and read the grille badge?!

Of course, they could have typed in the corret Reg No, got the correct make, and mistyped "Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Truck" as "Volkwagen Golf Cabriolet".
