I posted here a couple of weeks ago regarding a NIP that was issued 14 days after my alleged speeding offence. Thanks to all who answered and helped.

Anyway, I filled in the NIP and wrote a letter stating that they were out of time and hence the NIP was invalid and requesting it was cancelled. I had a very quick reply ( sent on the same day the received it ! ) informing me that under the 1988 RTA it must leave their offices within 14 days ( incorrect, as we know ) and they then went on to say that it had, in anycase, been sent one day before the date on the NIP. Oh dear, that's not right either.

So, I sent them another letter again stating the law and also enclosing a copy of the NIP and a copy of the enevelope showing the postmark and again asking that they drop the NIP.

Today I had a reply saying they had looked into it again and had concluded that the NIP had been issued out of time and so no further action will be taken and the matter is now closed.

Needless to say I'm very pleased. Thanks again to all who replied to my orginal posting.

Umm how can an authority or whatever they are do this and get away with it? Is this not some sort of fraud or obtaining money with menaces? Is there not an OffScam to complain to?

I hope that you werent doing anything silly to get the nip and it was just another example of 'safe speed'. Interesting to know if you follow it up it works. Friend of mine earned 3 points doing safe speed and the nip turned up 6 odd months after the offence. This was with being pulled over.

Chris

I was doing 38 in a 30 zone. A nice big wide road that I've driven down dozens of times before with no trouble so I assume I just took my mind of the speedo for an instant and kerching - £60 please !! Or in my case, not.
