There was a lad recently in the news who was walking home from a night out on a country road. He was hit by a hit and run and the car involved was later found burned out.
The lad driving said that he had hit the boy when he had already been knocked over and becouse of his previous he was afraid the police would pin it on him.
This lad was given about a year? And the other lad died.
Does anyone else think the law is far too leniant on hit and run cases? They're often in the papers.
I think its disgusting that people can hit someone and then drive off and get a fine or a low prison sentance.

Martha, this is a very emotional issue and there are various points of view to such an accident.
Firstly the factors
a) was it a dimwitted or drunk pedestrian who stepped out without looking?
b) was it a provocative action by a twat looking to provoke an emergency stop and
c) was it therefore unavoidable?
BUT none of the above remotely justify running after the event, that is just disgustiing and is usually to cover-up something illegal, DD, driving without correct insurance, tax, MOT etc, joyriding, twoccing.
All these should be slammed HARD by the law, if the accident and the "running" were the fault of the driver.
We must not allow ourselves to get into the state of mind that is being promoted by the greenies and socialists in power that "anything a driver does is wrong" or just "all drivers are criminals". This is as wrong as somebody "running"!

The boy may have survived if the bloke had stopped and called an abulance or even got out to help him etc, it was a quiet country lane in the early hours of the morning maybe if the bloke had stopped the boy wouldn't be dead.
As far as am concerned if you hit someone and leave them its murder.
I can't understand how this man can get away with it where others for example (women with kids who have died from cot death) are sent to prison with no evidence.

We have got more than enough laws to cover this sort of thing.
If we just completely removed scrotes from society that commited repeat serious offences, this sort of thing would rarely happen.
Half of all crime in the UK is committed by around 100,000 persistent offenders. We know who they are, we know they will not modify thier behaviour, yet we take no effective action.

The system used in some USA States of "three strikes and out" would solve the problem of persistent offenders. However, it would take political guts to bring the system in here, as the rise in prison population would not please everyone.
Just think, all those persistent offenders locked up for many years.
