Hello i am new to the forum so please be kind!

Me and one of my friends (he was driving) were on our way to work. The was a line of traffic (about 6 cars long, all quite a distance from each other) crusing at around 100mph. behind us was a bloke in a green volvo (on his own, with a jacket hung up!) My mate is paranoid that he is going to get fined or baned etc.

He has been reading up on VASCAR (as that is the only way he would have been caught, no bridges etc, no mobile sites).

Can the police issue a NIP based only on a VASCAR reading without pulling you over?

Thanks

Ant

No, you must be stopped and reported, given the warning formula etc. If you were over the ton on the motorway you would more than likely recieve a summons to attend court where you may recieve a short ban....
If you weren`t stopped on this occasion, it`s only a matter of time........

So are you saying that if the police bloke was there (not sure, it think not) and he did not pull us over and just carried on he can still get done for this, even thought the police did not pull him over?

No, your "mate" will not be prosecuted as he was not stopped.
If he continues to drive in this way it`s only a matter of time before he attracts the attention of Traffic Police again.....

Assume you mean a green reflective jacket.

I (as an x copper) I can't stand the fact that everyone has green jackets they should only be given to the Police and Ambulance etc.

Also Herts coppers don't wear the hats they are issued with so half the time you can't tell if its a builder or a PC.

Coupled to that loved the new community officer the other day parked in the outside lane of a dual carriageway with the blues on behind a broken down car, not even the common sense to push it to the side of the road better to cause a big jam by waving the traffic to the inside lane.

Whoa Will Crash ease up and steady on down.

If PC Alf Hart was on patrol and carried out a Vascar check on a vehicle and came up with a speed offence then if he was diverted or prevented in some way from stopping the offender this does not mean that proceedings cannot be taken. Under these circumstances it is permitted to go into the Conditional Offer procedure - send NOIP in 14 days to RC of vehicle together with Form to name driver etc just like a camera. (S 75 RT Offenders Act 1988)

As to the wisdom of BiB doing this is another matter. It is there should he so choose. Personally I would not do so as a single crew for obvious reasons but two on board again another different matter.

But wouldnt the police person have to produce some sort of evidence? If he did not stop the car etc how would he prove that the car was travelling at that speed?

Vascar can catch you going in the same direction ahead and behind, opposite direction, going across from a parked BiBmobile, parked on the other carriageway in a pre fed distance....in fact any movement that involves time and distance.

Vehicle Average Speed Calculator And Recorder.

To all intents and purposes VASCAR is a bloke with a stopwatch timing you between two fixed points a known distance apart and then working out how fast you were going. It's what those little white squares you sometimes see painted in the middle of the carriageway are used for.

Only detector is Mk1 Eyeball.

Nick.

You mean to say you had no idea what the white dots & squares on the road are for

So many people have never noticed their existence before

It's fair enough I spose not knowing what they are for but surely it does'nt take much thinking about or does it?

You will also notice they are conveniently near to laybys & grassy knols with a jam sandwich parked behind, so white dots mean Mr Plod could well be watching you.

If you are :notdoingamary: and you see ers get on the anchors quick as its time over distance so you may have chance.

Well you learn something new everyday!

Are the police exempt from all rules of the road? This morning we were undertaken by a police car (we were in the middle lane doing around 75-80) he went on the inside lane quite a bit faster than us. He had no sirens on, nothing.

Just wondered if there is anything any one can do about it.
